This is our third time dining at Le Cap-Horn, but our first having dinner as our usual reservation was for lunch. Have always dined in big group, group of 10 and dinner was now for a group of 7. Food standard is always there , no complains, we ordered kids meal (grilled fish, steak patty, fried chicken), soup, katsu, tacos, ribeye for adults While we did not order sushi, one sight that was observed, sushi was not made fresh, the sushi chef actually took pre made sushi (already wrapped in seaweed on the tray) from the fridge and served it to the customer. The only sushi that is freshly made seems to be the sashimi.. the fact that the sushi counter is open kitchen concept, it’s shocking to see this sight. Still giving 4 stars for food, as other than sushi the rest of the food we ordered is perfect. Service When we arrived, the restaurant was not busy, it got busier during the night. Service wise, could have been better. One of the wait staff who was helping to serve our meal came with the food and as only the main was served we asked if the dish comes with rice, his response was “yes it’s coming, I only have two hands”. To a simple question, he could have just responded with “it’s coming”, the last sentence was totally unnecessary. Atmosphere- love the atmosphere, still a clean and charming place

We have visited Chamonix today. Obviously, as everywhere there were too many touristic terraces alongside the Main Street. Le Cap-Horn is a bit hidden from crowd, however if you walk a bit you can see that the place is very stylish even from outside. The inside decoration is châle style mixed with modern. They have an extraordinary terrace with the view on Mont- Blanc. Very warm welcome of staff. Service is very attentive, but not imposing. They are almost invisible when you don’t need them, but present whenever you need. Now, the most interesting part of each restaurant- the food. Delicious! We have had a fish soup, wague carpaccio and escargot for the starters. Delicious! Melting in the mouth. For the main course we took a pork cheek and wok of chicken with noodles. D E L I C I O U S !!!!! This is the place to be. We will definitely get back to them!

Very SLOW service. We waited for 40 mins after placing our order and no food came. The server assigned to our table didn’t care about our table at all and didn’t notice our food wasn’t coming. It was another server who noticed us being a bit impatient and checked our food for us. The food tasted ok however the portion was quite small, in particular, the fried noodles. And the quality wasn’t good - as evidenced by some of the noodles being stuck together, which wasn’t something i would expect from a bowl of noodles that cost EUR25. And to be honest, if they charge EUR25 for a bowl of noodles which tastes at most mediocre by Asian standards, they could at least offer a larger portion. Overall it’s a tiring and overpriced experience to eat there and I would never come here again if i return to Chamonix.

Oh my where to start? Scam allert first, maybe? They pulled the oldest trick in the book and added an extra 14 eur drinks to our bill. Mistake, you might argue, but after experiencing the whole dinner theatrics and the fact that the lady knew a little too fast how much exactly she should give us back, I dont think it was a mistake.

Food was not bad but definitely highly overpriced. It's not worth the price at all. The wine list, too, we were hustled to take champagne. I live in Switzerland and travel a lot around France. This was a really heavy exaggeration compared to my usual experience. We said we need more time choosing since it's hard to pick something reasonable. And I don't mean cheap. I was ready to order champagne as long as it doesn't feel like a scam. The waiter proceeded to mock us. How come swiss people can't afford it. Then, he turned to other guest and started mocking us again, telling them, look, these people from Switzerland cannot afford our wines... something in that regard....

Then we were hustled to take the more expensive oysters, the 'cheaper' ones are not good, just salt and water, no taste, the waiter said. They were actually good. We didn't take the more expensive ones. There were few more offers to have extra this or that...

In the end, we were asked while paying if we also want to pay the tip. I mean, please enough with the hustling... are the employees in this restaurant paid based on how much extra they squeeze out of people? You already charge too much ... but to be fair, they were begging tips from everyone. Is it to embarrass guests who don't wanna leave the tip and have it said out loud in front of other guests? If I want to leave the tip I will, trying to squeeze it out of me won't make a difference.... We said no tip, that's why probably extra 23 EUR was added to our bill...

what a way to ruin a nice evening for someone...

longs story short: this is a classic tourist trap, there is load of nice restaurants you can enjoy even in Chamonix (probably not on the main pedestrian streets though) without the pretense like in Le Cap Horn

*EDIT: I must reply to the owner’s comments below because it is just one fantastic fabulation he came out with, although he is certainly not talking about us😊. Which basically just proves the BS this place is about.

I cannot imagine in what universe would waiter spend 55 minutes total at a table explaining the drinks and the menu: maybe singing it in a-capela while reciting every single ingredient of each meal&drink along with the full recipe?:D amazing imagination there, but it certainly didn’t happen with us.

Also our table was waited on by the male waiter so not sure who this mysterious she is. We certainly did not experience any shouting nor we disrespected anyone.

Furthermore, nowhere near in my review I said we were mocked by looks, I said we were mocked by actual words when the MALE waiter pointed at us and told to other guests look at these people …. Which doesn’t sound like a restaurant ‘’renowned for the excellency of the service’’ you are describing.

We have ordered once and did not change our order at all, hence your explanation why the bill had extras is overruled😊.

As to the offering ‘‘some drinks or items to prove our good faith’’, you had a chance when we mentioned that the bill is wrong, there was no offer in good faith at all and I am not the type of person nor do I have a need of running around questionable establishment asking for free stuff, especially after being ridiculed.

I am not very tolerant to BS especially not at this...

I rarely leave reviews and generally understand that service can be challenging when busy but the experience at cap horn was excellent and so very poor that I feel the need to share.

The food for all of us was delicious and well cooked.

They even brought out the kid menu almost immediately, which was great.

Sadly that is where the service however was unacceptable. It started off so well but we sat for roughly 30 mins after finishing our meals without anyone checking in or clearing our plates, no water, nothing.

After saying something to waiter, he rolled his eyes and said he'd be right with us but took another 10+ mins before coming over and then didn't even offer an apology for the delay. Even then, if he'd just made the effort to apologize for the delay and hurry up with our desserts. It took 15 minutes after we ordered desserts for them to arrive leaving us almost 45 to 50 minutes after finishing our meal before desserts arrived and with very little attention to service between that time.

Ultimately we were forced to ask for the manager who handled it well but it is very unfortunate for such an amazing meal to be so influenced by such a poor service experience.

So unfortunate for what otherwise could have a wonderful end to a fantastic day in chamonix

To make matters worse - after writing this and getting home.....the manager had offered a complementary drink for our next visit but we come to find it's just a card to advertise this and the other restaurants - perhaps an accident but just adds insult to the whole experience.

Again great food -...

Responding to Lucie Sabittoni’s statement

  1. We had wine during dinner
  2. He told us he was the manager
  3. We only waved him over because he was the only one taking payment that evening. We would have gladly avoided him if we could have Being an Asian fusion restaurant, it is ironic that we (an Asian American couple) had a pretty racist experience from this restaurant. We had dinner here on New Year’s Day, the food was pretty decent, and service was ok except for the manager who was blatantly racist. The manager completely ignored our table the entire 2-3 hours we were there. We observed him greeting all the other tables in our section kindly and checking on them throughout the night. When 3 or 4 of the tables left, we observed him run up to the new tables and give them the same friendly service. Meanwhile, the only time he acknowledged us was when we waved him down for the bill and even then, he brought the tab over, made no eye contact, and didn’t say a word. When we asked why he didn’t visit our table like the rest, he said “he didn’t know us” which was a complete lie since we could overhear his conversations introducing himself to the other international tables (Brits, Americans, etc). When we brought up that his service to us was very poor, he responded “I don’t f—ing care”, and threw our credit card on the table after we paid. His demeanor to us was very condescending and racist, which is completely unacceptable, especially for a high end restaurant...
