Used to Love This Place – Now the Service is a Disaster

I’ve been coming to Café Japonais for years. It used to be a hidden gem—great food, relaxed vibe, and a staff that actually treated people with a bit of decency. Sadly, those days are long gone.

The last couple of visits have been shockingly bad. The new staff—mostly very young—have zero idea how to interact with clients. No greetings, no smiles, no basic courtesy. Just cold stares, aggressive tones, and an entitled attitude that makes you feel like you’re inconveniencing them by showing up. One even rolled their eyes when I asked a simple question about the menu.

It’s honestly depressing to watch a place I used to love fall so far, so fast. I don’t know if it’s a change in management or just a total failure in training, but Café Japonais has lost its soul. The food is still okay, but the experience is so unpleasant it’s just not worth it anymore.

Unless they clean house and hire people who actually want to work in hospitality, I’m done. Plenty of other spots in town where you don’t get treated like garbage for daring to...

Cute and clean spot with a great ambiance. The vegetarian options are not great, I had the vegan maki set - they didn’t indicate on the menu what was included and what came was super basic makis, nothing creative or more substantial - avocado, cucumber, and a turnip one. If I had know ahead of time I would have ordered a la carte. Their bento seems to be what they’re famous for but they don’t have a vegetarian version.
