L'Orangerie — Restaurant in Bordeaux

I am ambivalent about the place. The location is amazingly beautiful. The food is a bit hit and miss considering the price range (tartar great, pasta not so great, chocolate/pistachio cake great, meringue not so great).

But the main turn off has been the maître d. My child got stuck for about 10 min in a lavatory because of a faulty lock. After long minutes of crying and screaming, a customer rescued her to open the door with a knife. When I reported the incident to maître d, she snobbishly shrugged me off by mentioning "there's a special technique to handle the lock". No apologies, no kind works for my daughter. As we were leaving, another young boy got stuck as well and received the same treatment from the maître d...

If you want to be treated like a low class citizen then look no further. Rude, unapologetic and unaccommodating staff, the only person with some sort of concern was one of the cooks but even he was ignored by the arrogant waitresses. My family, one other family, two more couples and a gentleman who was peacefully reading and enjoying his beer, where nearly kicked out of this establishment, the excuse? Nice drinks, though a bit expensive. You’re paying for the location. Could have the potential to be a fantastic gem of Bordeaux, but looses a lot of points for tardy and lazy service. You’ll sooner see the new year coming than your drinks. Decent wine list. I would give a critic on the food, but kitchen closes for much of the afternoon, so I’ve never I’d the chance to try. It seem it would make sense to be continued service, after all, it’s in prime location of the busiest park of Bordeaux. At least for weekends?
