Brasserie La Renaissance — Restaurant in Cognac

The food was fine, nothing out of the ordinary, but it filled a small gap.

We had been walking in warm weather for a while so our first drink was a beer and it was beautiful.

My wife went for a croque madame which she enjoyed and I had the plait du jour. I started with some chorizo and filo pastry affair which was quite strange. The chorizo was absolutely gorgeous though, cooked to perfection.

I then had chips with a couple of small breaded fish fillets. Whilst they were ok that is probably about it.

I closed off with a coffee and three mini desserts, all good. My wife had a scoop each of strawberry and pistachio ice cream that strangely came in a bowl each. She made both magically disappear and sat there smiling

The staff were three young folk, and they were really good. They were seeing to a decent lunchtime trade and did so with efficiency and lots of smiles.

All really rather decent.

Edit; We returned here and enjoyed a really good crepe. I had chocolate sauce and cream, my wife had butterscotch sauce and...

Service un peu long, il faut réclamer pour la commande et relancer pour avoir la commande des plats, après avoir fait celle des boissons, on aurait gagné du temps si ça avait été fait en une fois !, en revanche les serveuses étaient agréables

Le hic c'est une pression avec très peu de bulles, donc je vous laisse imaginer le goût ! Et le pire ce sont 2 burgers commandés, cuisson saignante qui arrivent biens cuits !!! Pour ce qui est de la bière, nous l'avons signalé, le responsable l'aurait goûté et trouvé à son goût, il n'a pas proposé de la changer, je précise qu'on avait juste bu 1 gorgée.

Au moment de régler on a indiqué le problème de cuisson et qu'on avait laissé de la viande dans le coin de l'assiette pour qu'ils constatent par eux même, la serveuse a juste présenté ses excuses, elle n'y est pour rien, mais j'avoue qu'un geste nous aurait mieux fait digérer cette expérience.

C'est dommage la table a côté on leur a servi un tartare de bœuf, j'aurai préféré, mais il n'était pas indiqué sur le menu.

Ça fait un petit moment qu'on n'était pas venu, je ne sais pas si on ré essayera, mais je pense que ce n'est pas le cas pour tous les habitués.

Absent service, I think would be putting it too nicely. The worst cappuccino I have had in a long time. A citron-pressé cobbled together with little or no thought during the process. Only plus is the location. If you can't be bothered to go far, walk across the road to Garden Ice Cafe for a coffee, or to the cocktail bar 'Bar Louise' on the side of the hotel...
