We arrived at 4pm. A large free car park is available across the road. We had 6 people booked with 3 rooms. Checked in fine and given the three rooms on the ground floor. Rooms ok. Bathrooms dated and small with grey concrete tiny separate loo. ||Went out for booked visits then dinner. Got back to the hotel tired around 9:15 with my elderly parents and two small children. The receptionist who checked us in earlier told us that there was a problem with our booking and we couldn’t go to our room. She asked for the confirmation but my phone was flat. My husband went to the car and retrieved a paper confirmation which we had. However she said this wasn’t valid. My daughter then was allowed to go to the room to retrieve a phone charger and we proceeded to charge my phone for the confirmation. All the time my parents were sat in the reception. When my phone charged I showed her the confirmation (which was the same as the printed copy) but she said she didn’t have this on her system. It was booked 5 months previously. I then also showed her an email received just 5 days previously saying that the hotel was looking forward to welcoming us! That’s a joke. |She went through all her lever arch files and said No we didn’t have a booking. |I was carrying a sleeping child and said maybe she could call the manager as I needed to get my children to bed. She said no. |I said I’m not sure what more I can do. The problem is the computer system as we are all booked and paid for. |Finally she looked on the computer again and my details came up for the three bookings. That’s me I said. She read it all and shrugged and said but it’s not in the planner! |This was 45 minutes in the reception with elderly parents and small children. I said we can do no more we are going to the rooms! She said we couldn’t but we did. |From there I called Accor customer service in Germany. They were very helpful and said our booking was fine and resent the confirmation which was the same as we had. They then called the reception to sort out the problem and then called me back. They were slightly exasperated and were surprised at the language of the receptionist but said she had agreed for us to use the rooms!!! |They apologised. |We received no apologies from the hotel and by gone 10pm I had very upset children. Our treatment was disgusting and it’s very obvious that’s there’s an internal training issue of staff. Making us all wait 45minutes worrying we didn’t have a bed for the night. Please avoid this place. Not up to...
Read moreIbis Cognac is a great example of a typical Ibis hotel. No frills , reasonably priced with everything we needed for an overnight stay on our road trip to Spain. The bed was comfortable, the facilities clean and the wifi was good. Breakfast offered a great selection and they even provided paper bags for people to take stuff away with them . It was well placed to explore Cognac. We didn’t visit any of the brandy producers but there several within a few minutes of the hotel. There is free parking in the public car park opposite the hotel. Special mention should be given to Lucy on reception who went out of her way to be helpful. Would definitely stay here again and...
Read moreThe hotel was quite quiet. However, I could hear the guest walking around in the room above and when they used the hair dryer (at 05:15). The receptionist, when we arrived Saturday afternoon, was helpful in pointing us towards Cognac distillery tours. The breakfast was quite sufficient, with a good number of choices. The en suite toilet was very small, but separate from the en suite shower room. Free parking was available on the street next to the hotel. The location for walking into the 'old town' is ideal - everything we needed was within easy reach on foot. I would like to visit the town again, and would certainly try to stay at this...
