Updated: unfortunately the second visit 2 days later was not as good, which highlighted inconsistency of the food preparation and ingridients. The onion soup was just OK, but the beef burgunion was terrible. The meat seemed like a perlce of overcooked roast beef. It needed to be cut with a knife and chewed for a long time. There was barely any flavor to the meat, and I requested extra sauce to be able to eat it. This should never have been served to paying customers... The service was great though, and the waiter was apologetic and honest, which I appreciated very much. I will still visit this place when in Dijon again, but will be more careful to ask before ordering.
Nice little place to have a lunch or early dinner. The beef burgunion is done differently here, as a single piece of meat that falls apart in your plate together with the rich mashed potatoes. Mustard chicken is also great and traditional. The sitting location outside the place Notre Dame is wonderful, and yet there's not too many people on the street in front of the place. Tables may be a little hard to come by for larger groups, and reservations aren't allowed. Will be back to try the onion soup and one more for the...
Read moreWe chose this restaurant for prices (very reasonable) and duck. Beef bourguignon taken for kids with mashed potato was very tender, perfect. Duck (cuisine de canard confit) was average, but a side dish (pomme de Terre sarladaise) - potato A-la Sarlat - was incredible full with garlic, which was stronger than duck taste. Nothing to do with potato from Sarlat (we have been there and it was much more tender and balanced in taste). Dessert - Pavlova- was very good.
We had to sit outside as we were with a stroller and inside on the ground floor there is just 1 table. It took almost half an hour to finally see us and take orders. Some other people just left before they get a chance to order after long waiting time. It was rainy and they did not to open at least umbrellas to cover people outside. I would rather come again if the earthed is good and take beef bourgouignon with dessert, that was really worth to come. But my impression is...
Read moreWe loved this restaurant so much that we had lunch here every day of our stay in Dijon! In fact, the duck confit served here is so excellent that it set the bar of quality and we compared every duck confit we ate at other places after that to the one we had here. After we travelled around France for a month (including Lyon and Paris), I still stick to the opinion that we had THE BEST duck confit of all France at the Bouillon in Dijon. It was moist, but crisp, and so so wonderful... Other than that, we also tried beef bourguignon, escargots, the little pasta in a delicious cream sauce, and other dishes - everything was tasty and decadent. Cote du Rhone they serve is smooth and pairs so well with the dishes. Last but not least - the prices are great! One thing to consider - it gets very busy here around lunch time, but the servers do excellent job in trying to fit everybody in, so the line moves...
