Restaurant was very busy and I could see straight away that the restaurant was understaffed. Waiter asked for drinks order and we ordered a bottle of white wine, showing the waiter exactly what we wanted from the drink’s menu. A bottle of red wine arrived which we sent back. Again we showed the waiter exactly the bottle what we wanted and waited. Yes the waiter brought a carafe of white wine. Sent back again and losing the will to live again asked for the bottle of white wine we wanted. Again after a wait the correct bottle arrived. Waiter just opened the bottle and walked away, no tasting offered. 40 mins in the same waiter then took our food order. The starters arrived and yes one out of the four was wrong. We persevered and decided just to to go with it. Mains arrived and two of the steaks we ordered were overcooked and not as requested. Advised the same waiter that steak was overcooked. The final nail in the coffin of a bad meal was when he advised us that he couldn’t remove the overcooking of the stake only cook it further. This individual was clueless about the job he was doing. We decided to pay and leave. I asked the supervisor how he could allow the restaurant to offer such poor service and bad food. Needless to say this was met with complete indifference. Judge for yourself whether after reading this review you...
Read moreCame here after forgetting to make a reservation elsewhere on a saturday night. to start - I had the salmon tartare, my husband the chef's special of dim sum. The tartare was nice but nothing outstanding. The dim sum were only 4 tiny pieces which tasted of the frozen variety. For the main dish, I had the chef's special of the beef wok and my husband had the seafood cassoule. My husband enjoyed his cassoule but again, nothing memorable. My beef wok on the otherhand was atrocious. It was NOT a beef wok, it was instead 4 pieces of beef in a morrocan sweet sauce with couscous on the side. Not at all what was described.
Service was non-plus, although the table next to us did wait 30 minutes for someone to take their order... We just had water (€6 for a 1L) because there were no bottles of wine for less than €22. We were disappointed in the meal so we chose to take coffee and a dessert elsewhere. The noise was unbelievable, we could barely hear each other across the table.
A €60 dinner for 2 starters + 2 entrees and 1L water. There are better options a few doors down, don't waste your money here. We...
Read moreMy meal at La Boussole in La Rochelle was an absolute delight from start to finish. The attention to detail in each dish was evident, and the flavors were simply exquisite. The breaded shrimp was crispy and perfectly cooked, with a fresh and vibrant salad on the side that balanced the richness of the shrimp beautifully. The salmon tartare was fresh and seasoned to perfection, making each bite a pleasure. The highlight was the main course: a perfectly seared piece of fish served in a creamy, flavorful sauce that was rich without being overwhelming. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender and juicy, accompanied by crisp and well-seasoned fries.
To top it all off, the desserts were a perfect ending to the meal. The crème brûlée was smooth and creamy with a perfectly caramelized top, and the other dessert, with its light and airy texture, paired beautifully with the tangy raspberry coulis.
Overall, La Boussole offered an exceptional dining experience. The combination of expertly prepared dishes, excellent service, and a warm, inviting atmosphere makes it a must-visit when in La Rochelle. Highly...
