Just in time for the warming temperatures, iced coffee fans in Lyon now have a reason to rejoice. The newly opened Mokxa Boutique located at the the historic Grand Hôtel Dieu is the first café (to my knowledge) in Lyon to serve nitro cold brews (4€). This method has been popular for several years in North America and other locales, and I for one am glad to see it finally arrive in Lyon. The nitro cold brew you find here has been infused for 8 hours and the result is a velvety smooth beverage sure to satisfy your taste buds. This location is a pure and minimalistic café with limited interior seating and inviting terrace.
You will find the staff here to be very knowledgable, helpful, and passionate about coffee and willing to answer any of your questions. The location can be fairly busy and not a location I would recommend for digital nomads, rather individuals or small groups wanting to enjoy a nice coffee/tea and have a relaxing chat. The only food offerings you will find consist of either a chou or brioche. Additionally, if you are looking to upgrade your home coffee brewing experience you will find a variety of coffee machines (automatic and manual) for sale here.

Read moreI rarely leave bad reviews, but the attitude of the staff was just awful. I couldn't even order anything. I came for cappuccino and they told me that they have too many drinks to do so I would have to wait for 10 mins. I said okay and came back in 10 minutes and then was told that the drunks that they needed to make were still pending. So they didn't ask me if I wanted to order and told me to wait. I waited for 15 more minutes right outside the café so they could actually see me. In 15 minutes I went inside to finally order and they again said that I have to wait more and said "it's because you didn't order". I didn't order because every time they told me to wait! I won't come back because they're rude and I'm surprised with the amount of the good reviews. They...
Read moreMy plan for the day was simple: visit Hotel Dieu and treat myself to a pastry with a steaming hot latte at a quaint café. Luckily, I stumbled upon Mokxa café. The baristas were super welcoming.
As I peruse the pastry selection, I'm torn between indulging in banana bread or a chocolate chip cookie. Aware of the sugar content in cookies, I opt for the banana bread, especially after one of the baristas recommends it, mentioning her own fondness for it despite not typically enjoying banana bread. I'm pleasantly surprised by its unique texture—denser than usual, with delightful pieces of caramel that melted in my mouth.
The latte is just as delightful—strong and hot, but not scalding. Overall, my experience at this cozy café leaves me...
