This café has a small interior footprint and a nice modest terrace. The interior is very charming and a little rustic. The table bases were made from recycled/reclaimed Singer style pedal powered sewing machines, which I found very cool. We found the restaurant to be pretty cozy, but also a little cramped when there were several people seated. This is typical of restaurants in Lyon so this is definitely not a negative and was something we expected.
Expectations for this café were extremely high due to all the very positive reviews and word of mouth. That being said, we wanted to be blown away and sadly, we were not. The café has a unique and fixed menu each week. We both ordered the same starter, pomme de terre novellas and chèvre. The dish was very fresh with an interesting combination of flavors coming from the sriracha and herbes mixed with the firm texture of the potatoes. The dish was served cold and we were expecting the sriracha emulsion to provide a good amount of spice, but found it to be extremely mild compared to the more familiar sriracha variants.
The curiosity about the araignée de cochon (spider pig) peaked when it arrived, beautifully presented with nice splashes of color. The pork was served over a bed of beans, along with tomate confite and the piment. It looked great. The first bite, surprisingly, was a little disappointing. The flavors were very mild for my taste as an explosion of flavor from the dish was expected. The dish was by no means bad, but definitely expected more. Also, the flavor, was found to be uneven throughout, where some bites were rather mild and other bites to be so flavorful, one could taste all the spices being used. The green beans and the tomate confite were the highlight of the dish for me. The freshness of the beans and the flavor of the confite were excellent.
In similar fashion, the trout was presented with the same care as the araignée de cochon. The trout was cooked very nicely and the au jus was flavorful and provided a nice contrast. Found the cauliflower to be something to be desired, the texture was nice, but did not make or break the dish. The peas, were a complete delight. The level of freshness was incredible.
For dessert, the mousse and the chocolat noir intense. The mousse was quite nice and the citron to be intensely satisfying. The chocolat noir was equally satisfying with the various textures of different types of chocolate coupled with ice cream and the crisp praliné noisette. The dessert was by far the most enjoyable.
The service began with a nice, warm, and friendly welcome. We had two individuals waiting on us, a female and a male, we spoke in French but she was attentive enough to notice that we were speaking amongst ourselves in English to give us the option of viewing the menu in English or French. The male server explained to us what exactly the Spider Pig was since we were very curious to why it is called Spider Pig. However, the welcoming feeling quickly deteriorated after we finished our main course and were awaiting our desserts. The male server came out and told us that they were sorry, but they cannot serve us dessert because of the time and they needed the table for another party. We were surprised to say the least. We had a reservation for two, at Noon, it was approximately 1:15 or so when we were awaiting our dessert. We complained and he apologized and said sorry. Then he said he will go check something, returned and offered to move us to another table on the terrace. At this point, we wanted to walk out. We had a reservation, Period. End of story. The fact that another, larger party came should not impact other diners. Even then, they should have sat us accordingly from the beginning. Asking a seated table in the middle of a meal to move is unacceptable barring extenuating circumstances. Although we enjoyed our desserts, this interaction completely ruined the mood and our overall experience. We cannot say for sure why there was an attempt to deny the remainder of our service and will refrain from making any imprudent...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at a small bistro that left a lasting impression on me. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by friendly and helpful waitresses who made me feel right at home. Their warm and welcoming demeanor set the stage for a delightful dining experience.
The food at this bistro was truly a work of art. The chef's creativity was evident in every dish, and I was continually amazed by the unique flavor combinations and presentation. Each plate was carefully crafted with attention to detail, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. It was clear that the chef had a deep understanding of ingredients and how to bring out their best qualities.
What impressed me the most about this bistro was the reasonable set lunch price. At around Euro 30, I found it to be an incredible value for the quality and creativity of the food. It's not often that you come across a restaurant that offers such an exceptional dining experience at such an affordable price point.
Overall, I can't recommend this small bistro enough. The combination of friendly and helpful waitresses, creative and balanced flavors, and reasonable set lunch price make it a standout in the dining scene. Whether you're a foodie looking for a memorable culinary experience or simply someone who appreciates delicious food, this bistro is definitely...
Read moreOrdered two granola bowls and asked if the yoghurt could be switched to a plant-based yoghurt. It was told that it could be switched, but we received only soya milk and not yoghurt at all. We asked if it would be possible to get the yoghurt, and we did receive yoghurt (normal) in the end. However, we had to pay 3,80€ extra for this, which is outrageous. Even when bringing it up while paying they couldn’t withdraw it from the bill. Bad experience then. If you want to resolve it, let me know.
Granola was okay, but the portion is very small. Can’t recommend at this price & with the service :/
E: Maybe you should talk to your servers. Of course we asked for a table, and we were assigned to sit outside. We talked with one of your waitress to make sure the ’soya’ youghurt could be ordered. Of course we saw the menu and showed it to him and asked if it could be changed. Maybe your restaurant should consider communication between waitresses, we had two different one’s which was the issue I see. We actually ordered milk with our coffee, we never received it. We used the milk you brought us in the coffee. I am sorry, but I couldn’t care less about 3,8 euros, but if you promise something you should keep it. Insulting customers (as you do now in the review) tells me enough about how you operate, one star is...
