YES! This isn't the restaurant you want to go to. It's the restaurant you NEED to go to. My husband and I decided to take a chance on going to the Grand Buffet in Narbonne for lunch without a reservation in hopes of someone cancelling. After waiting almost 2 hours they told us sorry, no luck. So we quickly Googled "best restaurants in our area" and Chez Lulu popped up. What a gem! We really lucked out. This is what French cooking is all about. The atmosphere transports you back in time to a 1920s bistro. The service is top notch, with the chef personally greeting you with a smile and friendly chatter. We didn't even look at a menu - he told us his specialty was the octopus and the cassoulet so we said "yes please". The portions are big enough so you can easily share each plate between 2 people. The octopus...wow. oh. wow! And the cassoulet - it really doesn't get any better. And I'm not easily impressed. All fresh, local food made with pride and love. This lunch really made our day and we will without a doubt be returning with...
Read more5 years ago we found this restaurant by chance and loved their food and service so much that we decided to come back on purpose a few years later. Once again, no issues, everything went well. Last week we went back again and the waiter was very quick, telling us they had no availability. At any time. We never had this issue before. His behavior was weird though, and we started thinking that there could be a different reason for that. We went back one hour later to check if they had any cancellations. I went inside alone, talked to a different waiter and I was offered a table until… they saw the stroller. Oh no, we have a “NO BABIES POLICY”. I reassured the waiter that we would close the stroller to avoid occupying too much space, but he confirmed that was not the problem. The problem was the baby himself. That was the reason. The other times we were there, there was no baby. Now, this “policy” is obviously discriminatory, but we clearly are not interested in ever coming back again. Dear new parents, or future parents,...
Read moreThe food at Chez Lulu is really good. I had never tried cassoulet before, so I decided to try it on a hot summer day, not knowing that the portion would be so generous ( plus, it is amazingly delicious) As a result, I asked if I could take it out, but one waiter told me they don’t do takeout. I thought it might be part of "French culture" that some fancy restaurants don't offer takeout to maintain their high quality. However, we later found out that taking out is actually a right written into French law. So we asked another waiter if we could take it out (without mentioning the law), and he immediately helped us with it ( who is really friendly )
So I hope that the restaurant can be considerate to their future customers and I suggest having a proper takeout policy according to the local...
