We were so happy to go to Le Franchin recently with our best friend for a very special celebration. We chose this restaurant because a few years ago, just before Covid, we had enjoyed some lovely evenings there. My husband and my main courses were as we remembered, well-presented, good flavour and quality. However, our friend, who was our guest, chose the Braided Seabass which tasted very good, but the plate arrived with a miniscule portion of four gnocchi citron and a mousseline. In fact, when the seabass arrived at the table, we presumed, that a separate dish of gnocchi citron would be coming to the table separately to accompany the seabass. This was not the case. So, we mentioned this to the young waitress serving us. She apologised and said she would go and speak to the Chef but … nothing happened. The waitress did not come back to us. We went on to order desserts with another waitress and they were good. By the time we had finished our meal the waitress, who was going to speak to the chef, had not come back to us. The only other comment we had was that we had to serve our own wine from the wine chiller bucket as no waitresses came back to do so – which is not normally expected. When it came to pay, I decided to ask the young waitress if she had spoken with the Chef. She did not know what to say and one of her senior colleagues asked if there had been a problem. When I told her, she agreeably said she would get the Chef to talk to me. The Chef came out to ask me what the problem had been. I discreetly said that we had been to his restaurant on several occasions before but today there was not enough served on the plate with the Seabass for a main course (i.e. a mousseline and four small gnocchi which was more of a garnish). I was not complaining at all about the Seabass, but the Chef seemed insistent that this was what I was saying. His answer was that no-one else had ever said this before and he was therefore not going to give a discount on the Seabass which, I had not asked for – it was about the amount of accompaniment served with it that was the problem. I have to say that the Chef’s manner with me was passive aggressive, and it was clear to me that he was unable to take any constructive criticism at all. I thought he would have been more amenable and that he would have understood that we would not have drawn it to their attention if our guest had sufficient food on her plate. Sadly, the way the Chef dealt with our complaint was not good and although we did love this restaurant, we would not return again. This ruined what was supposed to be a Special Celebration for the...
Read moreWe had dinner tonight at this restaurant but our experience was really terrible. I spent 200 euros but we were treated rudely and I got stained clothes, shoes and hair.
We sat at a table near the doorway aisle, and the boss spilled the soup and the bowl when he was serving. The bowl broke and the spilled soup splattered on my hair, jacket, trousers and shoes. The boss left immediately and a waitress came to clean the broken glasses and soup on the floor. However, no one came to help us with the soup stained on our clothes or body. No one said sorry, either. I used the napkin to roughly deal with the soup on my hair and my clothes. But they still look terrible. I asked a waitress whether they could give me some tissue and the waitress just asked me to go to washroom myself. No one even gave me a new, clean napkin to use.
Also, I was wearing a Miumiu coat which is dry-wash only. I cannot deal with the stain on it by simply washing it myself. So I went to the boss and asked him to pay for the dry-clean fee. This is a reasonable request, but the boss became very rude and very mad. At first he said I lied and the stain on my coat was just rain, so I showed him the brown color soup stain which could never be caused by rain. Then he insisted that this is an accident so he should not pay for that. This is ridiculous, because I know I will need to pay for a plate or glass if I accidentally break it in a restaurant. I hope this man understands that doing something accidentally doesn’t mean you don’t need to pay for it. The boss said ‘sorry’ and asked us to pay and leave (omg this was the first sorry I heard from him and his workers, although his attitude was so rude that I could easily tell he was not actually sorry at all).
Since we insisted that he needed to pay for the dry cleaning, the boss finally gave in and said he would give us our first starter dish free. That dish was 19 euros only, clearly not enough to pay for the dry cleaning of my coat. And the boss was extremely rude, he mocked on me saying that I should not wear an expensive coat in a rainy day. Again it is so ridiculous because my coat was not stained by rain but stained by the soup he spilled! I wouldn’t ask him to pay if my coat was stained by rain, and what I choose to wear is definitely not his business. I was very angry at his rudeness, but I really don’t wanna keep arguing with such a rude person. So I paid the bill and left asap. The bill was more than 200 euros for two people, but we got such terrible experience.
I wouldn't recommend anyone to come to this restaurant unless you can put up with the extremely...
Read moreFranchin is a must!. We were visiting nice for a few days and eating in different places every night. After looking the website we booked at table for two and walk to the restaurant. As soon as we arrive ,we were already falling love with this place: loved the iron wrought entry, beautiful tiled floors and some quirky decorations around. We started with a plate of terrine and a salad - the salad, we were told, had a special garlic flowers which appears only 2-3 weeks in spring. The texture, colour, flavour and presentation were so fresh yet there was enough body to it. A very satisfying plate. The main were a plate of octopus and a pot of beef cheek. The latter was like a piece of butter! Octopus was very tender and tasty. We finish the dinner with a chocolate fondant and the best profiteroles ever! We met Antoine who recommended a nice muscat wine to drink with our desserts. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, elegant decor, tasty food, sophisticated menu. We were one of the last tables to leave the restaurant and met sky, Antoine’s dog, extremely cute! Highly recommend this place. Thank you for the...
