This is one to root for. We dined there during our October 2024 vacation and luckily without a reservation. Hits: the drinks, my wife's "pigeon" entree, the excellent staff, and the hard working chef, Marthe (forgive if I misspelled) who I watched work, from my view of the kitchen, with a practiced intensity. She came out during a break and visited all the tables. Our server acted as an interpreter. I really like when the chef takes the time to actually meet the customers. My mushroom risotto was also very good - comfort food good - it lacked something but in the end was just what I wanted.
Our pre dinner drinks were excellent. My Kiwi Cobbler came with a little boat of white chocolate that had a dollop of cavier on top, adding an intriguing flavor to the drink.
Any misses were very minor. While we had our pre dinner drinks from the mixologists at the bar, we were served a small dish of chex mix - little pretzels and crackers like are served on an airplane except it was not even good chex mix. Our appetizer of Croquetas de Cèpes (duck croquetes) was OK but not anything I would return for. The wine list, if you want to stay under 100 euros, was really lacking anything worthwhile. The music - kind of loud and 1980's american funk disco hits (Chaka Khan) which was really out of sync with the food and atmosphere.
I would definitely return though and explore the menu because I think the chef is excellent and still developing the right cuisine for the restaurant. And the staff were terrific which always makes for a...
Read moreIf you are in Nice, you must visit this restaurant. All servers are attentive and kind, unlike many other establishments you will find in Nice. That is just the first part. The host who was taking care of me, Karim, was attentive and recommended great suggestions when I didn’t know what else to order. The cocktails were unique, for starters try the Kiwi Cobbler, it has white chocolate and caviar, something you don’t often get to try on the daily. I ordered the Chef’s Sampler for my appetizer with the Patatas Bravas being my favourite, while the entree I chose the Lamb Shoulder. It was the most tender lamb shoulder I have had, and it is shaped in a circular pattern which is a specialty of the chef’s. The chef had a background in Michelin Star restaurants, so if you wanted a taste of world class food for a reasonable price, it’s best you come here before it goes mainstream. The taste and quality is probabaly the best you can find in Nice. For desserts I chose the Crème Brûlée, and was recommended the Oxymel Gimlet for the cocktails. Both paired really well, and the Crème Brûlée has a deeper richer taste compared to what you can find elsewhere. This was just a short review I wanted to write as I am sitting and finishing off at the resturaunt :) I am sure there will be more people stopping by soon as the resturaunt gains traction, don’t miss out before it gets too busy that you have to book...
Read moreI never would have guessed, when I decided to go spend a weekend on the French Riviera, that one of the highlights of my little coastal escapade would be a last-minute dinner at this rather new fine-dining restaurant in Nice. What an exquisite discovery l'Antidote was... Other than the absolute delight for the eyes in terms of design and decoration, and beyond the warmth and professionalism of the staff there, the taste experience was truly extraordinary. And it all started with perfectly mixed, extremely aromatic and truly sinful cocktails at their bar. Those guys know what they're doing, and I'm not an easy customer, when it comes to pleasing my buds. And dinner proved to be the perfect continuation to that gourmet experience: I savored parts of it with my eyes closed, just for the pleasure of it, allowing my taste buds to enjoy and fully experience all the aromas. Every bite was a revival of my senses and pure poetry. So many unexpected marriages in the flavors, and yet, so much harmony to the palate. I don't often recommend places to go eat, because for me, taste is such a personal thing, but I will make an exception here: Go to l'Antidote with your eyes closed and enjoy the beautiful experience. And if you hesitate with the menu, let Manal, Karim and Walid guide you through it, they hold the secret to a perfect journey of the senses. Big...
