LA NOTE BLANCHE — Restaurant in Nice

We stopped by La Note Blanche earlier today for some drinks by the sea. The smell of the food was so good we immediately booked dinner for tonight to celebrate our stay in the beautiful town of Menton.

Our waiter was friendly and helpful , and remembered us from this afternoon. I ordered a steak and my wife had the salmon tartare with Thai dressing. Both meals were cooked (obviously not the tartare!) beautifully and presented well. The rosé we had with dinner was fruity but as dry as a good rosé can be - perfection.

Dessert was very testy and, on top of our main meals, very filling.

This experience at La Note Blanche was the perfect final meal to complete an absolutely brilliant...

Sad to not have enjoyed our visit. We were seated on busy roadside with lots of passing pedestrians knocking our table. Service was not great, the waiter seemed very distracted while we were there and did not check on us for drinks etc apart from once at the beginning. We had to then wait over half an hour to get the bill and pay (we asked twice) and no acknowledgement of the slow service/forgotten request for the bill. Food was ok but spaghetti seemed a little plain (not even any parmesan?) and the other pasta dish we had was quite salty. Menton, les citrons, le soleil, la mer ET La Note Blanche. A la recherche d'une table sympathique pour clôturer notre passage annuel dans cette belle ville, nos pas nous dirigent machinalement vers ce restaurant en bord de mer, quasiment les pieds dans le sable, que nous avions testé l'an passé et trouvé la cuisine correcte. Surprise, les prix ont un peu baissé. Il s'avère en fait que la Direction a changé et a revu un peu les plats et les prix. Nos choix se portent sur une salade César pour Monsieur et un tartare de thon pour moi que je trouve absolument excellent et vraiment très copieux. On ne retrouve pas d'anchois dans la salade César (dommage) et les oeufs sont cuits durs alors que c'est tellement meilleur quand ils sont mollets ; ce qui ne constitue absolument pas une faute culinaire tant il existe de recettes différentes de cette fameuse salade. Rassasiés, la gourmandise nous pousse tout de même à tenter 1 dessert (au spéculoos) : une tuerie mais heureusement, nous n'en avons pris qu'un seul pour deux car il est énorme, tout autant que le plaisir que nous prenons à le déguster ! A tester absolument quand on est fan de spéculoos et très gourmand 😜. S'en suit le café ☕ et la blaguounette italienne (oui, Menton est plus italienne que française 😜) : nous demandons 2 allongés et voyons arriver 2 expressos 🤔. En fait, en Italie, 1 café = 1 ristretto (1/4 d'expresso), 1 allongé = 1 expresso et un café américain = 1 allongé. N'oubliez pas d'y penser quand vous n'êtes pas habitué au dosage Italien 😜. L'accueil est fort sympathique et le service impeccable avec une bonne humeur constante. Nous avons passé un très bon moment et nous reprenons la route en espérant retrouver le même patron l'année prochaine avec une salade niçoise au thon frais/cru (private joke 😜).
