I will try to be as fair and professional. I am giving La Shounga a 2 star rating because of these reasons: I give ONE star for the prices, It is fair and affordable. I give a HALF star for the location of this Bar. Very Nice with a view of the sea. I give another HALF for the quick delivery of our drink and the kind service "at the start".
I sadly cannot rate the food. Because me and my friends were only there for drinks and good conversation. I can obviously see that La Shounga has a very good rating and I do not want to just come here with negativity, but with constructive criticism.
We arrived at around 23:15 and looked through the Menu, prices were appealing so we decided to stay. It was pretty full but the waiters were fast enough to find a place for 4 people. Before arriving this bar we have already had a few drinks in another bar, so we already had alcohol in our blood and we were all in the mood for celebration. We decided to get the 2 Liter Mojito for €30. Before we knew it the Mojito was already on our table, the waiters were very helpful they gave us the WiFi code, they took pictures for us. At around 23:55 we decided to slowly go and move to another place not because we did not enjoy La Shounga. But we still wanted to see more of the Nightlife in Nice. We then ordered the bill, one of the waiters placed the bill on our table. The total of the bill was fast and the bill was also correct. So me and my friends decided to split the bill, all in all we had placed 1x€10 bill, 1x€5 bill, 1x€20 bill (Total of €35) on this small bill tray that they have given us. After a few minutes the guys in our group had went to the toilet and me and my girlfriend had stayed to wait for our change which is a total of €5. Yes, some of you might say I could have given it as a tip, but here is were the problem starts. It was then taking very long for our change to arrive so we asked one of the waiters if we could please have our change (I did not note or take any of the names of the people who served us), he then looked at me and my friend saying "what change? you have not even payed yet. With great confusion in our head I kindly replied and said that we have payed for our bill. Our waiter then asked me to whom have I give the money to. I clearly told him that someone took the money from our table, and that I did not notice who took the money. The waiter suddenly changed his tone to a very sarcastic tone and started pointing to every waiter in their team and asked "did you take their money? or you? or you". And everyone said no, from that point I was starting to think "do these guys think we are dumb?". Me and my friend felt like we were being attacked. And everyone in the bar started staring at us like we were Thieves, then one of our guy friends came back from the toilet and I quickly gave him a summary of what happened. And he also agreed that we have payed, the waiter kept his ground and still continued on believing that we still have not payed. From that moment I was just more than pissed of and started making my voice a little louder, I stood my ground too. After raising my voice the waiter just left off this very unsympathetic vibe and said "ok whatever, just go, just leave" with the hand gesture like shooing away animals. I did not agree on how he handled us so I said "NO! I still have a bit of Mojito and I will be finishing this drink", he simply just walked away. After quickly finishing the drink we all stood...
Read moreI found this place after doing Google research ahead of my trip to France. I was only in Nice for one day, my base was Marseille. I absolutely would’ve spent more time here if I was in Nice for longer. Loved it!
The reviews had attracted me so much that I went out of my way to specifically find this bar while enjoying my day in Nice. I was pleasantly surprised because it was even better than I thought it was going to be.
The place looks great as you’re walking past - the decor, aesthetic, vibe is appealing. Also, they were playing such good music! On top of which, the server working that afternoon might just have been THE friendliest, warmest and most helpful person I met my whole time in France. She was great! From letting me charge my phone, being happy and singing while she worked, to advising on menu choices, she was such a doll.
I loved the view of the port I loved the menu - everything. I had a couple of aperol spritzes and one of their charcuterie boards. It was difficult to make a decision because so many things on the menu sounded delicious!
When I went inside to use the toilet I even liked the Cuba-inspired decor. There honestly wasn’t a thing about this place that I...
Read moreFood was decent but I've never experienced a waiter more rude than this young guy.
There were three of us who sat down for dinner. We ordered food and began to eat. When my friend took a pause from eating and still had two slices of her pizza left the waiter came out of nowhere and took her plate before she was finished. After that he proceeded to hang around near our table and looking over to see if we were going to hurry up eating. We hadn't at this point, even spent a total of 30 minutes at the restaurant.
Afterwards, I wanted to order a Mohito but was told that I couldn't because there were other guests waiting to sit down and eat.
When he came to us with the bill we pointed out that he had made an error and was charging us too much for our food. He grunted angrily and while he recalculated he muttered something to us under his breath. We paid and then we basically got thrown out of the restaurant.
I don't know if this moron still works here but it's apparent that this place treats tourists worse than locals just because they know that it's a one time visit they want to...
