This is a perfect spot on the beach. I came early for a coffee and sat on one of the couches in front of the sea. It was very relaxing. The coffee was ok- the view/location is really the main attraction. A few people around me ordered breakfasts and it looked appealing. I was thinking I would come back for breakfast the next day but then I asked for the bill and it started to go downhill after that.
Unfortunately there was a server there that seemed to take a disliking to me- he kept shouting at me from other tables after I tried to quietly get his attention to ask for the bill as he was passing. He had a ridiculing tone toward me saying ‘yes yes yes’ as he passed me, as though I was rushing him. I guess he felt under pressure at the time, but I was not overtly being loud or rude- I’ve never had a problem like this with servers before. When he returned, he stood behind me and barked his words at the back of my head. I turned around and asked for the bill. With the same barking tone again, he questioned which type of coffee I had and I confirmed what I had ordered (from a lovely server, initially). He said he’d get the other guy to come back and then proceeded to sweetly chat up the woman sitting behind me. His demeanour changed completely.
Shortly after a young lady server arrived with a wireless card machine with no bill/receipt, and no indication of how much I needed to pay. I wanted to see how much I was being charged before I tapped my card, which is a perfectly reasonable expectation. The language barrier didn’t help here, but after a couple of failed attempts, the server shouted the price across at the back of my head, drawing the attention of the people sitting around me.
I’m not a rude person- I was quietly trying to get his attention and I maintained integrity even when he was shouting at me- but I was travelling solo and found his hostile behaviour very intimidating and I left the place feeling like a piece of crap. I actually spent the next two days getting food to go because my confidence took such a hit.
There was another male server there (the one who originally took my order) who was absolutely lovely and the young lady server was lovely too. They are the only reason I am giving 3 stars.
You might like to take a chance for the location- the people around me all seemed to have a nice experience- just be mindful that there may be a lack of professionalism. If you are not confident in your French I would not recommend this place. If you’re a rotten old hag like me, then maybe you should go somewhere...
Read moreWe were staying at Le Meridien and was told that this beach club was recommended because they are known to treat guests well, especially patrons of the hotel. We were able to secure 2 beds at the front with an incredible unobstructed water view. Staff proved to be helpful during the reservation process. However, once we arrived and situated ourselves at 10:30 am no server approached us for the hour we were there. We decided to eat lunch at their restaurant and we’re seated promptly. However, once again waited 30 minutes until being approached by a server. There were several servers walking around aimlessly and conducting team meetings in our presence during the time. Furthermore, there were only 2 tables seated in the restaurant including ours. When the server arrived, he apologized communicating that he was preoccupied with other work related responsibilities. We were finally served and the food was good, but not great. At the conclusion, we inquired about the lack of service at our beach bed and the waiter assured us that he had notified our beach server of our presence and that he would come find us after returning to our seats. Once again, we waited with no server in site. I finally flagged him down as he was taking another group’s order so that we could order some drinks. Unfortunately throughout the course of the day this was a recurring theme. I understand that service oriented industries are struggling with staffing, but if you are going to charge a premium for the experience then the expectations need to match. Their seemed to be an abundance of staff for the volume of patrons since it wasn’t particularly busy. Safe to say that compared to other beach clubs this place doesn’t even come close. I also fault the Le Meridien for continuing to recommend a place, that based on recent reviews, continues to...
Read moreI was very excited to visit this Beach Club. I kept seeing so many posts about it. I made reservations for the restaurant, and once I arrived, it was just mediocre service at the beach lounge chairs. So disappointed.
The food was amazing, the scenery was great, and the beach was incredible. The waiters at the actual restaurant were nice… but…
It was completely the opposite once you transitioned to the lounge chair waiters; they were absolutely terrible. Despite knowing French and communicating in French, they had the typical American-hating stereotype attitude. They kept ignoring us. We spent more than 500 Euros at the restaurant (2 people) and that didn’t make a different for the waiters on the lounge section- they rolled their eyes, pretended not to see us, kept saying things on the menu were unavailable when they were (other people were being served than us). All we got for the two hours on the beach was a bottled water. Which once they handed us the bottle, they asked us to leave because the beach was closing early despite the schedule posted said something else. And here’s the kicker, we couldn’t exit with the water that they had just served us.
Go to another beach club; or at least just do the restaurant but never the beach lounge section (you can just go to the many other clubs nearby or by yourself with a towel). It’s not worth it. All the hype on social media is not true…
We’ve been to France before and traveled everywhere. It’s not always like this in Nice, but just the lounge beach staff here. Overall Nice is not racist. It’s a beautiful city but just...
