This place looked cute from the outside. My wife wanted to sit down for a glass of wine and a snack. It seemed cozy and quiet, we were surprised that there were so few people in such a location. It seemed like quite the find. My wife went in to use the ladies' room, while I stayed outside looking at the menu.
When my wife went in, the waiter, who had greeted us outside was gone, probably in the kitchen. So she waited her turn in line to the bathroom. When the waiter came back he asked what she was doing (in English) and started kicking her out. She said we'd be having a snack and that I was outside looking at the menu. He said I wasn't "sitting at a table," so she couldn't use the restroom (I was texting my daughter and mother-in-law that we'd be having a drink in town to expect us late and wanted to offer them a cab to come and join us). My wife asked the waiter if she could use the bathroom, he switched to French for some reason and started kicking her out.
She came out and I came in, sure there was a misunderstanding. Unlike me, my wife doesn't speak French. But alas, the waiter was indeed screaming at her for having wanted to use the bathroom and we obviously didn't fancy spending an evening with him. No wonder there's so few people at the place.
Zero hospitality, zero respect for women. It's disgusting to see a man behave this way in...
Read moreI stumbled across this little café tucked away off the main tourist track in Montmartre and noticed it was empty inside and out. The waitress explained that because of its quiet location, they don’t get as much foot traffic as the busier spots around the corner. That felt like a shame, because my experience here was fantastic.
Even though I don’t speak a word of French, she sat me down and patiently helped me navigate the menu. The portions were generous, the food was absolutely delicious, and she went out of her way to make sure I had the best experience, answering all my questions and happily catering to my requests.
What really stuck with me was her kindness, the waiter noticed I was charging my phone with a power bank and offered a wall socket so I wouldn’t waste it. A small gesture, but one that made me feel really cared for.
Hands down, I’d recommend this café to anyone willing to take on the Montmartre stairs. It’s a hidden gem that deserves to...
