Currently living in Paris and visited here with my parents a few weeks ago. It was so enjoyable that I returned with my husband and his parents this week.
On the first occasion we had wine and cheese. (As Mum and I couldn’t decide between some wines, the waiter let us try and then decide. I had not expected the luxury of trying-before-buying wines in such a busy place, but this made us feel really looked-after). We really liked the wines. We also chose a cheese plate between us and it was delicious, this was accompanied by some very nice bread (including top ups!)
On the second occasion, it was so hot we just fancied beer. One small, one medium, and two large. It was good to be able to have a size that suited each of us! The beer was liked by all of us.
Each time we were looked after by the same waiter who was absolutely charming and friendly and helpful and I get the impression that other staff were similarly pleasant.
I will definitely return, and recommend all of the things that we tried. We noticed that the plates of food that went to other customers looked very good, and although I would find it hard to look past cheese and wine, I would definitely consider any of the other offerings at this establishment.
I felt pleasantly surprised that when based in a tourist-heavy location (where most customers are only here on holiday so there is less potential for return custom and therefore less necessity to enhance customer experience) the Chez Eugene team really seemed to go the extra mile on our behalf.
Thank you very much for a lovely time and I will definitely return soon with my husband and/or the next round of guests whilst...
Read moreWe had dinner here 2 years ago when we visited Paris, and enjoyed it so much, we returned to it this trip. We were greeted by the charming, fun and funny Omar who was very accommodating-we wanted to sit out front facing the artist square but required 2 tables together for the 5 of us, and no tables were available. Omar was super, ensuring we got exactly what we wanted. We knew it would be worth waiting for. We were so thrilled that the young sommelier from last time-Côme, who looks like a young Johnny Depp to me-was still there, and just as interesting, friendly and professional as what we remembered. Our food was incredible! The escargot was the finest we have had in France, in its green pesto sauce. Really delicious. Beautiful cheese board with fresh warm bread. An amazing Caesar salad, the only one we’ve had in France, with crispy breaded chicken—unbelievably tasty. Delicious ceviche. Very fresh and tasty side salad. Desserts were wonderful too-rice pudding is a must! Côme treated us to an after dinner drink. Another incredible experience at this restaurant! This place is magical....
Read moreAs you would, there are the good, bad and ugly for a touristic place such as Montmarte. We chose Chez Eugene on our 2nd day to Montmarte as they had a free table when we asked. After we were seated, the service seemed like they were doing us a favour as they had a free table. We didn't receive menus and a waiter who was clearly too busy but only bothered to serve the customers he wanted came to take our order and realised we had no menus. The menu is generic and didn't really have any interesting options. After we ordered, and waited, the waiter took our menus away without really asking if we needed them - he clearly picks favourites. The food arrived and was decent, nothing extraordinary. The waiter forgot to get our drinks. The service was off puting and we decided to go to another restaurant. Later, when the waiter got the bill, not only did he add the drinks he forgot to get but also proceeded to patronizingly tell us that the tip is 10%. This is definitely not a restaurant I'd recommend. If you walk a lane behind the main square, there are much better options for a wonderful meal...
