The courtyard is a charming setting. Tables and chairs were spotless, despite being exposed to the elements. Our table was reserved with our name indicated. It would be nice to have someone to welcome the clientele and explain how the ordering is done at the counter, although it is rapidly obvious. Staff members behind the counter where one orders were very amiable and informed. (Service 4 star rating is for them, not for our server). We each ordered the plat du jour of risotto with vegetables, and a wine suggestion was made. Once ordered, we were given a plastic number to place on our table for the server to bring our food when ready. The server was rather mechanical, and she did not speak to us, nor did she smile. At least she brought the food out while it was hot. The food was ok for the reasonable price. The risotto was served in a bowl with warm root vegetables, edamame and some dressed salad. The vegetables were well prepared, the edamame being particularly delicious. However, the risotto was plain, overcooked (at the very beginning of lunch service - not late) and sticky, without much flavor on its own. While the bowl was attractive to look at, I probably would not order the risotto again. The Sancerre was quite correct. Plates, glasses and cutlery were impeccable. I do feel that the website should make it clear that, even at lunchtime, ordering is at the counter and there is no true table service, only delivery of the goods ordered. If we had had a real server, lunch would have been a much more pleasant experience, and less like a cafeteria. I also think we would have been inclined to order dessert and coffee if we had had real table service. As it was, it seemed too awkward to get up from the table to go to look at the desserts, wait in line to order again, and to go back to the table with our plastic number. If the café is employing a server or two, could they not take the orders and serve the tables in the classic style? This is "Café Mulot" after all, not Kentucky...
