I never give reviews, and I had to for this place. We happened to come across Bistrot de I'Oulette randomly while we were hungry in the neighborhood. I'm so glad we did because it was the BEST meal we had in Paris and the best meal I had in 2024/2025. We tried many highly rated / fancy / non-touristy restaurants throughout Paris afterwards and were consistently disappointed with the food especially in comparison to the food we had here. We ended up going again towards the end of our trip because we missed it so much! You probably wouldn't think much the place, tucked away in a non-commercial neighborhood / laid-back interior - but wow, when you try the food, you can literally taste the love, dedication, and expertise that goes into it. Because we came twice in 1 week we tried a good amount of the mains on the menu: steak, fish, chicken, scallops + mushroom creme soup, chocolate dessert. Not going to lie, everything was impeccable and absolutely delicious - close your eyes, savor, as taste bomb explodes in your mouth kind of delicious. Furthermore, the service was excellent - Ibtissam and her accomplice (don't know his name) were extremely warm, professional, and attentive despite how packed the venue was. When she heard we were celebrating a very special occasion she went out of her way to make the occasion special with congrats and gelato :) we now plan to come back every year to this restaurant as a ritual / celebration. Please don't miss out on this food experience, it'll...
Read moreHad Christmas dinner here; enjoyed it. Everything was well cooked & delicious. Server was wonderful & spoke English well. Our experience was great, & it's the only one I'm including in the star rating, however, table next to us had a very different experience.
One diner in neighboring party was vegan, so they mentioned to the server they had called ahead to see if that was alright & they were supposedly informed it would not be a problem despite the pre fixe Christmas menu. Apparently, the restaurant forgot & server was caught off guard. Server asked if fish would be alright for the vegan diner. Vegan diner patiently explained her dietary restrictions (no meat, no fish, no dairy, etc.). Server seemed flustered & brought out the vegan diner a salad as a starter, but server was so flustered, he forgot the foie gras appetizer the non-vegan diner at the same table ordered. They waited patiently until they finally asked for the diner's foie gras appetizer. We left shortly thereafter, but I dearly hope the neighboring table's experience improved in...
Read moreIf I had a French grandmother and she invited us to her best Sunday dinner, it would fall just short of the food and atmosphere at Bistro de L’Oulette. The setting is simple, homie and inviting. The food without equal, scallops, fish, duck, beef, I could find no down side. First night my wife had the scallops, I had the duck confit, remarkable. We were not familiar with French chestnut soup, so the chef brought us two half portions to try, absolutely delicious, silky with just a touch of sweetness. Went back next night for full portions of the soup, baked duck breast and cassoulet, again superb. The front of house staff is helpful and anxious to give you a unique dining experience. The chef/owner is gracious and superbly talented. He keeps an eye on his patrons through the counter height partition between kitchen and dining room. Go, just go, you won’t regret it! But make reservations. We will certainly be there...
