I noticed that Saravana Bhavan has moved to a nearby location in Paris. We were genuinely confused about which one is the original Saravana Bhavan we always used to visit. Anyway, the photo attached is from the place we went to yesterday.
Honestly, I would say it’s not the real Saravana Bhavan. The menu simply said “Indian Vegetarian Restaurant,” and the food quality was far below the usual Saravana Bhavan standard — the taste was very disappointing.
I’m also a big fan of filter coffee. But when I ordered it here, they served me machine-made coffee, which was really bad. When I asked the owner, he claimed that no one in Paris makes filter coffee anymore. I was honestly shocked to hear that — especially since just last year, I had excellent filter coffee at the original Saravana Bhavan, which was in the older building. I even know some of the staff there, as I usually visit Paris once a year.
The food taste was not good, and neither the atmosphere nor the service was satisfying. They mentioned that renovations are in progress, but I still felt the pricing was too high for the quality they offered.
And about the filter coffee — if the new owners don’t make it, they could have just said so. Instead, saying that no one in Paris makes filter coffee is misleading.
Very disappointed with the new...
Read moreI have been a regular visitor to Chennai Dosa since 2021 and have consistently recommended this restaurant to my friends visiting Paris. However, today's evening meal left me thoroughly disappointed.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by a girl wearing glasses who displayed a considerable amount of arrogance in her demeanor. This was quite surprising and unsettling, as the staff's hospitality has always been a positive aspect of my previous visits.
Additionally, I couldn't help but notice a decline in the quality of the food. The taste and presentation were not up to the standard I had come to expect from Chennai Dosa. I couldn't shake off the feeling that perhaps there has been a change in ownership or management.
Unfortunately, this experience has left a sour taste in my mouth, both figuratively and literally. As someone who has been a loyal customer, I must say that I won't be returning to Chennai Dosa. I hope these issues are addressed, as I have fond memories of this place and would like to see it regain its...
Read moreThis is my review update one year after my last review: Chennai Dosa has new owners, and is better than ever!! We come here (at least) twice a week, so we should know!! We happen to be fans of their South Indian thali, but the North Indian thali is delicious, too. However, they do a Deluxe South Indian Thali (extra curries and an extra dessert) on the weekends that my husband adores. Of course, they offer the usual South Indian specialties--- a variety of dosas, uttappum (a wonderful large "pancake" that is a must-try), idlis etc-- the potato masala for dosas, the sambar and coconut chutneys are the best on the street! And I absolutely recommend as a change from mango lassi their "buttermilk"(a jazzed up yogurt beverage or their amazing banana lassi (very light and delicate in favor and texture What we also love is that this is a family run restaurant and not a chain--- they really care about their customers! (Nice plus--- the restrooms/les toilettes are very clean.)
We Love You...
