We had a great meal at Chez Rene. It is a classic bistro with all the food, decor, and service you'd expect in Paris. The waiter was a little pushy in a French way but it's fine if you have an idea of what you want. It's better if you take any perceived attitude in stride as part of the experience. We got the escargot, pot-au-feu, and boeuf bourgninon. The two main dishes were specials off the menu and we knew they were known for them so we got them. Both came in very big portions which was nice. The escargot were big and super flavorful with the green sauce. We got 6 of them but could've easily eaten more. Sauce was very addicting. The boeuf bourgninon was very rich and savory. It really hit the spot and they serve it in a plate with the rest of it in a pot. The pot-au-feu was outstanding. A stewed beef soup that is definitely on the lighter side but the beef quality was very good and super tender. There were lots of different cuts of beef like tongue and marrow. For dessert, we got the 'floating island' rich was pretty unique. It was like a meringue on top of a cream sauce with pomegranate candy and almonds. It was also huge and pretty tasty but wouldn't say it was my favorite thing. Definitely worth trying though. All in all a great classic Paris bistro experience.

The food was very good; the service was comically bad. To begin our experience, we were crammed in a little corner. The person right behind me was blowing his nose and incessantly coughing. I realize this is beyond the control of the restaurant, but it added to the mediocre atmosphere. Then the service. We went in to have a light lunch. As such, we ordered three appetizers and two glasses of wine. The waiter chastised us for not ordering a main meal. At first I thought he was being funny. No, he was genuinely appalled at our egregious behavior. I mean rude is an understatement. It's not like our meal was cheap either. We just didn't want a full meal. At the end of eating, he came over with the bill and the card machine. He then asked how much of a tip I wanted to leave. I am a good tipper, but I'm also well traveled. One does not need to tip in most of Western Europe as a cost of living wage is included. It is a choice to tip. That being said, I was so shocked by his behavior that I ended up giving him ten Euros. It was wrong. I know. I rewarded his bad behavior. Yet, again, it was so bad that it was comical and I just wanted out of there. It really is too bad as what I had to eat was quite good, but I will never return here.

This gem of a place offers a taste of classic French cuisine in a warm and welcoming ambiance. The escargots de Bourgogne are a must-try, served in a buttery garlic sauce that perfectly complements the tender snails. For a main course, indulge in their impressive beef bourguignon, a hearty dish of tender beef slow-cooked in red wine with vegetables. Save room for dessert as Chez René does not disappoint. The mousse au chocolate is a classic done to perfection. Our server Daniel was attentive, friendly and English-speaking, taking the time to ensure you have an enjoyable dining experience. He is knowledgeable about the menu and eager to make recommendations or answer any questions you may have.

That was seriously horrible! I'd rather eat some old food on the sidewalk next to a trash bin than going there again!

to be fair and starting with the food. It was ok! not great but definitely ok. The prices also are in the lower high section, but still fine for Paris. The problem though was the staff. We went there with a reservation and we were seated on a table just few centimeters away from the cash register, although the restaurant was not full and never was full during the whole evening. Our servant was an older man. He seemed to be very experienced but he was an absolute ass*ole. He kept treating very bad since the first second. He didn't bring any bread or appetizers, Threw two menus on the table and left for around 15 minutes, until I asked the manager to send someone else to serve us for the rest of the evening. The manager was very nice and he went himself and brought us some bread, water and cream cheese. after 5 minutes the first server came back and took everything without asking is we are ready or done and said we should order now. I said I needed some help with the menu because it was available only in French, although my girlfriend spoke French we needed to ask some questions about the starters, and his answer was if you don't know what it is maybe you don't need starters. Just eat the main it's filling enough!!

We asked again for the manager and he came and explained the menu and took out orders. The starters were very good the mains were meh! The food in general was served in strange time and out of sync. We noticed that other customers were also complaining.

Afterwards, before we almost finished two dinners were leaving and they left some coins on the table as tip. The server just picked them up and started counting how much out loud. He was extremely loud and rude with a big sigh at the end.

I complained to the manager again and he apologised and provided some drinks as compensation. We just left without...
