Cinquecento — Restaurant in Paris

Foreigner/tourist review for those of you also visiting Paris as a tourist! :

My husband and I were craving some pizza and happened to find this spot in the area we were in and it was a fantastic find! It has lovely terrace seating with a pretty view of the Fontaine des Innocents and it’s in a prime location for people watching. The restaurant is in a really lively area being a 5 min walk from the Westfield des Halles and the Centre Pompidou. This was a Wednesday evening and the area was bustling, full of people out eating, drinking, and having a good time. It was the perfect spot to just sit out and watch all sorts of people walk by. Good food, a pretty view, pleasant atmosphere, and quality people watching are all I need, really, to have a good time.

We ordered the pizza napoletana to share which was really taste and was the perfect size for a small dinner between the two of us. No complaints at all with the pizza. I had a gin fizz to drink which was refreshing, smooth, and slightly sweet, which makes a good cocktail for those of you like me who don’t like drinks that taste too strongly of alcohol. For dessert we tried the baba au rhum. Disclaimer - it was both of our first times trying this French dessert so I’m not able to compare it to rum babas from other spots or to really say how good or authentic it was for the dish. What I can say is that they take the rum part REALLY seriously. The first pieces we ate tasted like pure alcohol. The dough was oversoaked in rum to the point where biting into it caused rum to spill/spew out, and my sinuses began to clear from all the alcohol. I wasn’t planning on basically taking some shots of rum for dessert, so it wasn’t my favorite choice. The last few pieces of dough at the bottom of the plate somehow weren’t as intensely soaked in rum as the first few, but it was still overall way too strong for my liking. If you’re a fan of alcohol, this dessert is for you. If not, I’d stay away. Either way, I’m still glad I decided to order it as I tried a new French dish.

I still loved my time and dinner at Cinquecento despite the rum attack. The service was really great. We were served by Jo who I also think is a manager at the restaurant. He was really friendly and attentive and made sure we were enjoying our food at all times. Also, if this happens to be a plus for any of you at all, he’s a really fine looking man. So if you’re looking for a central lively spot for some tasty pizza with good vibes, good drinks, and good views 👀, Cinquecento is a solid choice.

Fist of all, they forced us to order more than we could eat, and we did order as a respect and when we couldn’t eat it we thought of taking it away because we couldn’t even eat 40% of it. They being so racist, didn’t only let us take away the food they made us order extra and pay for as it was our right, but packed our pizza in a foil paper instead of a box unlike for the people on the table next to us. When questioned upon why is that so, the waitress gave a lame reason, that pasta has two parts and they can’t give it to people for takeaway. I can’t even wonder what would they do of the food by not giving it to people who paid for it.

It’s being so racist and rude and inhumane. I reccomend people to not go there and don’t let these people take away the humanity and feel like gods. It’s a shame on the restaurant and the owner to have such people working for him.

However good or bad the food was, in all I would never in my whole life time want to go there again until they do something about this and apologise for their behaviour. And I will make sure that all the people I know around me and all over the world, I share this experience about this particular place and refrain...

Mon partenaire et moi-même nous sommes rendus à Cinquecento un Samedi entre 15h et 16h afin d’y savourer notre premier plat de la journée après une longue ballade autour de Paris.

Nous avons été accueilli par une serveuse qui nous a indiqué une table libre pour 2 personnes, le tout, sans reservation.

Après nous être installés, nous avons pris connaissance de la carte qui se compose : des salades et entrées, des viandes, des pâtes, des pizzas et des boissons. La carte dessert n’est fourni qu’après le premier service.

Le premier constat est que la carte est assez remplie, mais tout est en dans le thème du restaurant qui se veut italien avec des plats typiquement traditionnels, avec pour exception les escargots de bourgogne, spécialité française. Il est vrai que de nombreux pays voisins, tels que l’Italie et certaines de ses régions, consomment des escargots, mais la consommation d’escargots de bourgogne est en principe retrouvée dans la cuisine française, voir allemande. On peut alors traduire la volonté du propriétaire du lieu d’introduire dans sa carte les escargots à la dégustation, met que les touristes recherchent.

Sans pour autant critiquer, nous sommes sorties de ce cadre et avons pris en entrée le set de 12 escargots avec en menu principal une pizza 4 STAGIONI pour Monsieur et une entrecôte de 300g pour moi.

Les escargots sont compliqués à manger et malgré une démonstration présenté par une serveuse serviable, il a été difficile de maîtriser la pince. Vous pouvez, sans autre, tenir la coquille avec votre main gauche, et chercher l’escargot avec votre fourchette en main droite, ce qui rend l’aventure plus simple et vous permet de ne pas en mettre partout.

Les escargots étaient frais et goûtus et nous avions même hésité à commander une deuxième tournée.

La pizza 4 STAGIONI de mon partenaire était également succulente. Le pain était moelleux et savoureux et le topping de la pizza ainsi que ses ingrédients étaient très frais et se marinaient tous parfaitement bien.

Quant à l’entrecôte, je l’avais commandé saignante mais je l’ai reçu à point ce qui m’a un peu déçu. La viande était de très bonne qualité et avait bon goût malgré tout. Si celle-ci avait été accompagné du beurre de Paris, l’expérience culinaire aurait été meilleur.

Les boissons sont un peu over-priced, mais celles-ci sont servi dans de grands verres, tout comme les portions de nourriture qui sont très larges.

Dans l’ensemble, notre repas chez Cinquecento s’est très bien déroulé et les serveuses étaient toutes très cordiales. Le seul bémol qui était assez ennuyant était une des serveuses qui entrait et sortait du restaurant toutes les 2 minutes pour je ne sais quelle raison, ce qui cree un courant d’air froid épouvantable que l’on préfère éviter en cette saison froide.

Ainsi, au vu de toutes les circonstances énumérées ci-dessus, la note de 4 sur 5 a été attribué a Cinquecento qui a su charmer par sa carte, la fraîcheur des ingrédients et son ingéniosité. Nous ne pouvons que recommander Cinquecento à toute personne désireuse de manger très bien en plein centre de Paris et pour un prix tout à fait correct. Le restaurant est petit mais cozy, et vient ainsi à des couples ou familles, voir à des personnes seules recherchant des plaisirs gustatifs.
