The unique experience of this amazing, tremendous, subtle place for whiskey connoisseurs has been thought out from start to... nearly finish. I speak for the hidden tasting section of the Golden promise. Probably more than 500 rare bottles of the finest Whiskeys are welcoming you and the tasting Master can advise you wisely to make a choice depending your taste or if you want to be surprised. He knows every bottle and the heritage of whiskey and rum. The place is designed for the pleasure of the tasting, focused on the liquors. Neutral smell in the basement, neutral taste of the water, chosen music not too loud. Prices are very different from the "cocktail" part of the bar but you will for sure certainly not have the same experience. Here, it's another step, you learn, you grow up, you go back home covered with a thin layer of gold... they warned you: golden promise! You don't want to extract from this bubble out of the world, your mouth full of deep rare flavours, you happily goes up to surface in the 2 stores one dedicated to sake, the other to whiskey. You like to watch all those bottles extending those moments of grace you shared, your eyes sparkling when suddenly a growth voice barks at you STORE IS CLOSED! YOU MUST GO OUT! Your bubble is broken in half a second by a rude security man without manners nor education. We have put on the table enough money not to finish the experience that way. If stores are forbidden, please put screens to make a way to the door and put the security guy outside or better educate your employee to high end customers and code of luxury places. Another comment: whiskey master was wearing a face mask and it's ok, even if I personally prefer to see the full face of people. In such place, if mask choose white masks instead of blue. If gloves choose coton white.
That said, I very highly recommend the place for the choice and the quality. Note one star is only because security guide broke our bubbles and the from nirvana we came down to frustration...
Enjoy...
Read moreI went here with my mom on a trip to Paris and we stopped by because we both love whiskey. The reviews indicated this would be a great place and it looks amazing. Our experience was less than that.
When we entered there was an awkward exchange where we asked if we could get some drinks and the man sent us downstairs. There we were greeted by a bar tender and given a bit of the concept. I’m not sure if it was accents or unclear instructions but we ended up awkwardly in the wrong section for the whiskey drink we were looking for.
The best part of the night was the young man who helped us in the old whiskey section, setting us right in the cocktail lounge and generally being very helpful and welcoming.
A server came over to take our order and made us two old fashioneds after we told him our preferences. The cocktails were delicious, but he never returned.
It was quite clear there was a party happening next to us which included staff. It didn’t bother us but after we waited and waited for someone else to come back and ask if we wanted another drink. Ours had been empty for quite some time, we left unsatisfied with our service.
When I mentioned this as we had to get up and ask for the check the server who talked to almost every table but ours expressed surprise.
Considering the Michelin star on the front of this place I was expecting much better service. Even if you are celebrating you still have customers and we were not made to feel that our business was welcome.
I wish we could have had an experience like others did here, but I will not...
Read moreThis whisky bar is just amazing! If you love whisky or whisky cocktails, you need to visit this bar! Certainly top five whisky bars in Europe in terms of selection. The ground floor is dedicated to the shop. Once you go to the basement you enter whisky heaven. The first thing you see is the bar counter with an amazing wall of whiskies to choose from. You can sit there or at one of the tables in the adjacent room. I went on a Friday night and it was quite packed, but the bartenders are nice and will find a spot. As in every top-notch whisky bar, they bring the bottle for each whisky you order. Service is top class and bartenders are knowledgeable. Now, if you really are into whisky you can go into their tasting room where you'll literally find legendary bottles on each wall of the room. All of them are for you to taste if you wish... and if you can afford it! Overall I'd give 95/100 to this bar. A couple of small negative points are 1) prices are around 20-30% higher than other whisky bars, but hey... where are you going to find that selection of whiskies? 2) the menu was outdated and most of the whiskies I asked for had finished. The bartender said they were going to create a new menu in a few weeks, so if you go there and the menu is outdated just look up on the whisky wall and ask for THAT bottle to...
