I've eaten here three times till now. Small and with flair, however... Portions are too small considering prices. The food is okay, but not worth the amount of money they ask. They seem to think they have "very special" gourmet food, but in truth the food is quite average and the area offers many better alternatives for a fairer price. As an example, you will get the same salad with your appetizer and your main course (exactly the same) and the "salad" is basically just lettuce/rocket. Not creative. They also use the salad to fill up your plate and "inflate" your meal size for your eyes. Again, portions and price are not fair. In the summer guests outside keep the whole neigbourhood awake at night due to the echo in the streets. (I visit an appartment about 150m away from the restaurant) and there is no attempt made to quiet guests down after 22:00, making L'Escalier despised by the people living here for noise pollution from Spring to Autumn. I don't mean the guests dining and conversing in a regular voice. I mean the chatting smokers with a glass of alcohol basically shouting at each other like they're alone in the world. The service is friendly, the food is not bad and its a clean restaurant. But it is not a "secret tip". I'd expect the ingedient named as the main component of the meal to be the largest part of the meal. Not the case. You're getting a mountain of green salad and little pieces of the "expensive" ingredient. It seems to be a "Tourist Trap" for "Suckers" under...
Read moreWe decided to visit this restaurant for dinner after walking past it earlier in the day and reading reviews. Starting with the good, the service was friendly and warm, and the restaurant was busy. It had a nice neighbourhood restaurant vibe.
Now onto the bad. The food was terrible. Absolutely terrible. The worst meal we had in Paris by miles. The only bad meal we had in Paris. The creamed leeks were underdone and almost inedible. The mushroom risotto was inedible. The chicken supreme was fine,...
Read moreI’m surprised by such great ratings. We came for lunch and while the apps were enjoyable, the entrees were mediocre at best. My beef was so tough I couldn’t even cut it, they offered me a sharper knife to do so. It was impossibly to chew. My friend had the pasta with salmon, which was not anything to write home about. It would never pass an Italian grandma test. Cappuccino was good, I’ll...
