TOURISTS BEWARE! My son and I stopped here to have some wine while my wife and daughter shopped in a neighborhood nearby. I asked for a bordeaux recommendation from our waiter and he quickly pointed out a carafe of wine for 26 euros. I agreed and he brought us two glasses and our carafe. After awhile we finished our wine but the girls were still shopping so we ordered another carafe of wine. Subsequently my wife and daughter joined us and we finished the wine. When I asked for the bill our waiter brought me a bill for 90 euros! I thought he mistakenly brought me the wrong bill but he confirmed it was ours. I asked him how our bill was 90 euros when we only had 2 carafes of wine for a total of 52 euros. I showed him what we ordered originally on the menu and he looked perplexed and tried to find a carafe for 45 euros but could not find one. He walked away flustered and then came back explaining that he poured us a very nice Bordeaux that costs 48 euros/carafe and only charged us 45! With my wife and two adult children with me I decided not to escalate the matter and begrudgingly paid the bill. As soon as we entered, our waiter was attentive, with a quick wit and good sense of humour. I tried the escargot and the frogs legs, both of which I'd been hoping to do whilst in France, while my partner opted for a Rump Steak with peppercorn sauce and French fries.
The meal was absolutely gorgeous and the waiter took the time to walk me through how to use the utensils required for the escargot. He served my meal with a "Welcome to France" after we told him it was our first day, and shared that he'd never actually tried frogs legs himself! Although he loved the escargot.
We got the profiteroles for dessert and the waiter advised us one portion was enough to share, so wasn't trying to upsell anything or con us (which is always a danger as tourists)!
I could recommend this place to anyone quite happily. We had lunch in the July sun, with a charming waiter and good food. We only had water for the table but any time it was ever empty it was promptly replaced. All in all a great lunch and will always be a special memory of our first day in Paris and taste of...
