A taste of 15 year old ago Paris, But not in a good way.

We spend a lovely weekend in Paris, after not being in Paris for so many years. Paris has changed, and for the better! Ok, so our French is very basic, but wow... it's so easy to go about things in English these days. It helps make the experience so much better. Sadly however, we stumbled across * Le Voltigeur *. It was a Sunday morning and we were after some breakfast. We were not the only ones either, as almost every person there asked for a menu, however were advised there is no menu for breakfast, so all had to ask the waitress (who was very nice) for what they wanted, hoping they have it. The options were basic, no eggs but your basic parisian food, which is to be expected. So we ordered 1 croissant , a coffee, a baguette with jam and butter and 2 cups of carrot juice. The juice was lovely and refreshing, the croissant was ok (just ok, not warm and nothing more) and the baguette was actually a 1/3 of a full size baguette. What shocked us was the bill, it totaled 18 Euro's! We were very disappointed, as no menu was available to view prices, and it would seem the restaurant exploited this type of blind ordering.

One could say that we could ask for the prices in advance, but come on... this is not a relaxed way of doing things, and none of the tables to the right or left of us asked either.

When we advised the waitress of this, and our disappointment, she confirmed we were not the first ones to voice this. I can't help but wounder how many thought it too but didn't voice it.

This reminded us of the old generation Paris, were tourist traps take advantage of the situation.

We were disappointed and it left us a bad taste for the morning. A restaurant with no menu.... Never...

A pleasantly, simple place. Great for people watching. I had their Giovanna salad. At first look, I thought it was another boring French a salad, but when I dove in, it was very tasty! The black olives were a bit plain and just thrown in, but I note that cured ham and red bell peppers were delicious….and peppers are not usually what stand out in a salad for me. The accompanying bread was not anything worth the extra caloric intake….surprising for France. The cappuccino was presented very lovely and delicious, however served quite hot for the hot day. I would return for their salad and a friend for some...

Avoid at all costs! This is a scam for tourists! The service does not respect its clients and treats them differently with respect to how much they spend (they prefer naive tourists who don't know any better than to vastly overpay). In my case, they tried to make me move to a cold and cramped place by the door because of a "reservation" (in fact a tourist family just arrived and they wanted to make me move so they could scam these poor people). In a respectable establishment one is supposed to tell a customer in advance that a place is reserved or will soon be taken, but it seems such concepts are completely foreign to the management of this place. In fact I suspect it was a complete lie and they were just making up an excuse to move me to accommodate more "pigeons". The coffee itself, to be honest, is terrible and way too expensive for the poor quality. I used to like this place for the atmosphere but the service has become terribly rude. Never coming back!

Authentic Local Gem – Friendly and Delicious Breakfast! We had breakfast at Le Voltigeur, and it was such a lovely, local experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and warm – while they had limited English, they made a real effort and were always polite and welcoming. The breakfast was simple but full of quality: they served natural fresh honey, good coffee, and fresh fruit juices – all really enjoyable. And the best part? The price was surprisingly cheap for such a nice and authentic spot. If you’re looking for a no-fuss, genuine Parisian café with kind service and quality food, this one’s a hidden gem.

The outside caught our attention. The flowers on the wall and the patrons eating this amazing looking lemon meringue pie. We had to stop by and sit! The staff were welcoming and even accommodated us with an English menu. We ordered the salmon quiche. It includes a salad and gazpacho. The salmon quiche was tasty and thick. The gazpacho was cool and refreshing. Compliments well with the quiche. But the lemon meringue wow! The lemon was just right. Big slice. Really great piece of meringue. Definitely recommend stopping by and sitting and grabbing a slice!
