When I arrived I thought it would be a great second experience in Paris, felt like the place be amazing, cause the architecture is really good looking and the guy that welcomed me in the reception (Louis) was so polite and friendly. Unfortunately I was terribly wrong! I couldn’t sleep because of terrible teenagers that were taking over the whole place, talking out loud xenophobic and mean stuff about me in french (That I do understand! Btw, you should know some brazilians are polyglots - and that’s my case!), those teens were pointless loud, disrespecting others personal space, they even tried to ENTER MY ROOM - and I do have it all recorded because I didn’t felt safe at all. And I didn’t felt like I could take a proper rest. That only stopped around midnight when one of the professors screamed at them to stop talking about other people because “even who speaks basic french understands what they were saying”. Well, that is on the hostel’s account, because they should let the guests know that there is a school staying there, it’s about honesty. I would never book my stay knowing there’s a whole school staying there in the same nights I’m there. And then, when I tried to talk with the security guard about changing my room to another building, he said there were school groups in all of the buildings 🤡 and they were booked a long time ago. So, why this wasn’t informed before? Let’s go to inconvenience #2? Woke up in the morning to have breakfast in the restaurant, it was before 9am. I couldn’t find any plates for me to eat, so I walked around the restaurant trying to find some. It was pretty much empty in terms of people, and there was some breads, cakes, cereals, coffee and stuff… but no small plates. So I only got black pure coffee and seated and waited for some staff to appear. When this guy appeared, I went on his direction and talked to him very quietly (once it was MORNING BEFORE COFFEE AND I AM POLITE) asking for him to give me a plate so I could eat, and then I pointed out for a pile of dishes but they were big ones. And this guy started to scream over me saying that the plates were only for dinner, and I should eat in the plastic tray 🤡🤡🤡🤡 (yes, not even my dog get to eat in such bad conditions! Someone page ANVISA). The few six people that were in the restaurant eating were starring at the situation cause it was bizarre, honestly! I was shocked first with such bad manners, and second how anti hygienic this is… I didn’t got anything to eat. But later that day I went on the reception to ask if the breakfast didn’t include dishes, and they said it supposed to have cutlery, dishes and stuff! Well, idk who is the wrong one. But, despite that, there was no fridge in the whole hostel, no clutery AT ALL - so one day I bought take away pasta and had to eat with my fingers 🤡, had to drink my stuff all warm! Oh! And the toilet? Omg!!! So disgusting, I think that thing haven’t seen a cleaning product in ages! 😮💨 I could write forever! You guys lie sooo much on your page… it’s crazy. Never recommending and NEVER staying there again. The only good thing was the Louis guy… In other hand, there is other hostel I stayed in Paris once - the name is Caulaincourt at Monmartre 🫶🏻 the staff is awesome, polite, everything is clean and they are AWESOME. Totally opposite of...
Read moreThis youth hostel in central Paris was a decent place to stay for the price.
We stayed Aug. 3- Aug 9, 2018 for the Gay Games in Paris.
The price was great. We had a 2 person private room. This included a small bathroom with shower and sink only. The toilets are public and are down the hall from your room.
The staff was mediocre. If it was past 11 pm, the night time security guards slept on duty and some times did not buzz you into the hotel. We had to be let inside by hotel guests who were exiting. Walked right past hotel security who is sleeping in his chair. Didn't make us feel safe when they are sleeping on the job.
The cleaning staff we encountered was also disappointing and rude. Some days they cleaned our room and made the beds nicely. Other times, they didn't make the beds at all and left dirty cleaning rags inside of our room. One time when we came into our room, they cleaning lady was just sitting on a stool in our room doing nothing. We had to ask her to leave but were wondering why she was sitting in our room doing nothing. Another cleaning woman barged into our room while we were resting in bed and would not leave after I asked her. I had to yell at her and forcibly close the door on her as she was insistent on mopping our floor with us in the room. This was unacceptable and very rude. She didn't speak one word of English and was yelling at us in French. We didn't care that our floor would not be mopped. Also, it's very hard to rest here. There is always loud noises by the cleaning staff and the courtyard door slamming every 10 minutes. We stayed during a heatwave in Paris and had to purchase a fan from a local store just to stay in our room. The temperature in our room was 32 degrees C/ 90 degrees F. No climate control or fans provided. We almost left and stayed in another place with climate control.
Also had to purchase a towel for 6 euro.
It was decent for the price and had a nice courtyard to relax in. Maybe other rooms are better but this particular location weren't the best. The one around the corner had better rooms and seemed like a nicer overall building.
The location was just 2 minute walk to Saint Paul Metro station and 10 minute walk to Hotel DeVille which was convenient. Overall 2/5 star rating. Great price, but...

However... The place looks nothing like the photos! Grim and grubby bedrooms and showers. No AC, 1 plug socket in a room of shared people (people were even using the sockets next to the sink to charge phones, broken lights (which have been reported but left unfixed... At least for the full 4 nights I was there), no lockers for belongings, even the advertised luggage room I wouldn't consider secure as guests are allowed in and out alone to take their own bags in, you're "NOT ALLOWED" in your room between 12&3 while they get cleaned, not much available for the inclusive breakfast aside from lumpy yogurts, baguettes and two types of cereal. Low regard for disability access needs too; I had to request three times (once in a message before my stay and twice at reception) for a bottom bunk bed due to balance issues from an inner ear issue (hearing aid user also) to be told that it would depend on availability... It took showing my disability rail card to aid my explanation that I wasn't trying to be awkward! Thankfully, a room of bottom bunks was available though I was assured that in the event that there wasn't, another room would be sourced which was kind. They must realise their shortcomings as cancellations made before a stay EVEN AT NO NOTICE will still receive partial refunds but they also have a policy that says "Any stay initiated and interrupted by the customer is due in [fall], whatever the reason. No reimbursement will be made."... So basically if you check in and then realise how bad it is, they won't refund?!
I forgot to mention that some of the shower rooms don't have doors, the showers are mostly cold/take AGES to warm up (not a problem during this heatwave mind but can't imagine it would be good in other seasons) and both showers I tried had to be held due to broken shower...
