Lulu offered a very Parisian cafe experience away from the beaten path with great examples of customer service. Pavement seating for people watching was ample.
While my wife and I have been to Paris on a number of occasions, this was my children's first Paris experience after getting off the train and offered a chance for my son and daughter to discover the delighted of people managing to smoke and eat at the same time.
Espresso was fine. We only ordered sweet crêpes, and while the food produced couldn't be described as the best ever, but there was certainly nothing wrong with them, good solid crêpes. Although it's hard to get a crêpe wrong. 3.5 / 5 for the food.
The highlights for me were twofold. My daughter requested a crêpe with Nutella and Strawberries, which was not on the menu. However, the requested item was gladly provided and pronounced delicious. The real surprise though was when my sons plate fell off the (small) table on first cut, smashing the plate and depositing the crêpe on the ground. The staff were gracious about the smashed plate and the crêpe was immediately replaced. I was impressed and delighted that, when the bill came, we had not been charged for the replacement! Double customer service score in Paris, well done LuLu.
So why 5/5 for 3.5/5 food? Because it's a Parisian cafe doing what a Parisian cafe does, and with apparently fine customer service. From our experience, deserving of...
Read moreGood place for enjoying quality crepes in authentic cafe setting. In fact, after returning from our trip we watched Emily in Paris, and a scene of 2 couples was filmed at this establishment. My wife and I ordered the bacon, egg and cheddar dinner crepe along with an other delicious one made from poitrine fumee, iberique, fondue poireaux with Comte and Ementhal cheeses. 2 glasses of de rigueur Rose accompanied the meal. Dessert consisted of a sweet crepe covered with a tasty homemade caramel sauce (caramel beurre sale maison), vanilla ice cream and warm bittersweet chocolate sauce. How did we know what to order? Easy - we pointed to the plates being enjoyed by 2 regular clients who actively engaged in banter with the waiter like old friends. And when our food arrived the guests nodded and smiled knowingly at our selections (when in Paris…). The prices were spot on for the quality of food, and for a large city quite reasonable. The tables outside faced a bit of traffic, however, the seating in triangle area between 2 streets was a little more private as one street is a cul de sac butting up to Canal St Martin. Inside is down market. Do yourself a favor and enjoy a few crepes here as they are better quality than those in high tourist traffic area downtown. Emily and her friends...
Read moreI am still shocked by the experience I had here. I never leave bad reviews but feel truly inclined to share as I’ve never been spoken to rudely to by a server in my entire life.
I arrived here on a quiet night and asked the server if we could sit for a drink. She said yes. It took over 15 minutes for her to come over (which we didn’t mind - we were in no rush) and she took our drink order… but we were never handed us menus.
Not 30 seconds later the “manager” comes out and tells me in a very nasty and condescending tone that she “this is a restaurant and she is the manager” and we can’t just sit for a drink. This was confusing as the server had already taken our drink order. You would think the staff should be on the same page, especially on a quiet night.
This could have been communicated to us when we arrived, we easily could have gone somewhere else. I don’t understand what the point of her outburst was as in the time it took for our order to be taken, we could have finished our drinks and been on our merry way.
I have worked in the service industry in Paris and abroad and this is simply not an appropriate way to treat customers, or people for that matter. We left feeling embarrassed about the situation and for...
