We have read a lot of good reviews, so we decided to check the place as we were looking for oysters. Once we saw the teeny tiny place we were not so impressed, but greeted nicely at the door decided to give it a try. We were just going for a few oysters and a glass of champagne before going for dinner, but once we were ready to order, we were informed that the cheaper oysters on the menu were not available and we must order at least 12 expensive ones per person. We are big oyster lovers, but that felt like too much before dinner. As an alternative, we were offered to order "the best smoked salmon in Paris" which didn't taste any different than any standard smoked salmon you get in the supermarket and came with some bread that didn't even taste fresh. We went to three different oyster bars during our stay in Paris and in addition to being by far the most expensive ones the Opium's oysters were also the weakest tastewise. We enjoyed the champagne, but 15€ per glass also felt overcharged. At the end we payed 100€ for a not so good starter and felt like being rushed out as more people were waiting to get in. The server was nice, but pushing it too much to make you order things you don't want and all the niceness evaporated when it was time to leave. Once we left, we felt a bit robbed. Definitely wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Don't know how it has such...
Read moreThey serve all kinds of top quality seafood, but we all know what you really came here for - that’s right, the oysters! They serve oysters from 3 main regions of France, each type have unique textures and flavors, you might have preference of one type comparing to others but all in all any types of oyster they serve are so fresh and succulent so honestly you can’t just go with any, or just order a dozen (like 4 each) to try the varieties for yourself.
The owner is very friendly and always willing to help if you have any questions, and from the locals dining in or buying oysters to take home, you can see that this shop is loved by many. If you love seafood and especially oysters, definitely go there, indulge yourself, get a dozen oysters and pair it with a glass of white wine (ask for recommendation and the owner will be more than happy to help you pick one), I am sure you will walk out extremely happy, and likely with a valuable lesson to remember for life - don’t squeeze the lemon juice on to the oysters! The acid from the lemon juice will completely destroy the...
Read moreWe came to this place for an oyster lunch. The staff (I don’t know, maybe it’s the owner?) was incredibly friendly and polite. We each ordered a small glass of wine and a dozen oysters — the first ones on the menu, for €29.
The person who served us definitely deserves a special mention — was extremely generous. He treated us to what seemed like a large glass of wine each, and even offered us additional oysters, different from the ones we ordered — very plump and rich in flavor.
Until today, I thought all oysters tasted the same, with the only difference being the size. Turns out, the more expensive ones (almost twice the price) taste completely different — they’re much richer, bigger, and meatier.
I don’t take this kind of treatment for granted. It was such a lovely experience — especially considering Paris doesn’t always have the best reputation when it comes to service.
A big thank you to the owner for the wonderful hospitality. Five...
