I chose this hotel based primarily on location. The location is good, close to the river and notre dame, and central for other attractions if you don't mind a little walking.|At check in it was obvious straight from the start there might be issues.|The receptionist was looking for the key to room 26 for us, didn't find it, turns out they overbooked, and gave us room 25.|I had paid upfront for superior double, the room they put us in was a standard. Dark and smelled musty, and someones hat still left in the closet. Somebody else might not have said anything but I definitely had to. I went to reception, told them I paid for superior and it definitely was not what I had been given.|At that point he said there was no other room available and nothing we could do, he would raise it with the manager of the hotel. The first reception man did actually seem like genuinely felt disappointed for us, and he didn't know what to do bless him. He was at least trying.|We went out, feeling upset and disappointed and considered insisting on a full refund as not what we paid for and trying to find somewhere else, but when we got back after a little walk the reception man told us he spoke to manager and we would be moved to superior the next day, refunded 50% of the first night and given a bottle of champagne by means of apology.|We accepted and although it meant the first night we were unsettled and unhappy, couldn't relax, at least we didn't have to panic about finding a room anywhere else.|Breakfast was complimentary, basic, cheese, bread, yogurt, egg, not the most amazing quality but we don't eat much first thing anyway. The coffee was good, and we didn't get told about the complimentary water so didn't use that facility.|The next day we were moved to s superior room which was much nicer. Colourful and windows facing the street. Bathroom toiletries are basic, and tea and coffee and small kettle provided. We could unpack and relax a bit at last.|After night 3 , on our day out in paris I recieved a number of phone calls and an email to say we were to vacate our room! I told them I paid for 4 nights! When we arrived back at the hotel the reception lady just said its sorted, but there had obviously been another confusion regarding the booking systems they use at this hotel. I didn't feel as though this hotel tries to look after it's guests on a personal level, I felt more like they overbooked and hoped they can pass of standards as superior.|The cleanliness was OK, not perfect, under the bed very dusty and high mirrors dusty, and the door to our room was left unlocked after cleaning. Room 22, the door needs to be pulled tight to shut properly.|The lift was working fine.|We enjoyed our anniversary break in paris.|However, the hotel could definitely have been better in my opinion.|My advice would be to not overbook...

Read moreWe stayed at the Hotel Dauphine Saint-Germain for a family plus friend, week-long holiday in Paris for sightseeing. We were charmed by the hotel (it's 400 years old!), the staff, the architecture of the surrounding area and the folks that live and work in the Saint Germain area.||We were appreciative of the thoughtful allocation of rooms on the same floor to our group of five guests. The rooms, cleaning and hotel facilities met our expectations and the quirks of a family in tow. Furthermore, conveniences like the provision of water helped during a week of sightseeing in hot sunny weather. We were warmly greeted every day by Flora, Adrien and other staff at the hotel. Flora wonderfully greeted our daughter every morning and both Flora and Adrien gave us the lowdown on the area and various matters of interest. We shall remember fondly the banter we had with both Adrien and Flora and look forward to meet them again.||The hotel is situated in the Latin Quarter and within walkable distance to cafes, patisseries, eclectic shops, metro stations, the Seine (Pont Neuf was just a short stroll away), Odéon, Louvre etc. We were advised by Adrien that we should take random walks to discover new areas (pencilled in for next trip!).||Some nearby conveniences included|- A few Carrefour shops dotted around the neighbourhood. These were convenient pit-stop purchases to stock up with refreshments for trips on the hoof.|- The hotel is close to Odeon and Saint Michel-Notre Dame metro stations|- We spotted a few pharmacies in the area||We visited just over a week before the opening ceremony of Paris Olympics. We had visited all the sites before restrictions so we had a preview of the staging and spotted some athletes and games staff strolling in metros and staging areas. We had planned our visits to locations before the pre-ceremony restrictions were applied after mid-week. We did not have “pass jeux” but were grateful that Adrien had created a stamped letter which we only had to present once to a police officer manning one of the checkpoints close to the hotel. We quickly adapted to the restrictions and managed our excursion accordingly with no disruptions.||In summary we had a great and memorable time in the Paris and we had warm interactions with folks we've met in our excursions. Hotel Dauphine was an excellent base for our daily adventures. We are grateful for all the help and advice from Flora and Adrien. We are very excited for future trips to Paris as we've only explored a small part of this beautiful city and diverse...
