Disappointing by many aspects. First, the absence of choice for the main course. And you are forced to take the thick and overcooked fries (called "pluches" to make them more interesting probably) since you can't swap them for some other feculents (frankly speaking, when your menu totalls a grand number of 2 (two!) dishes, how difficult it can it be to propose roasted or boiled potatoes as alternative to the french fries?). Second, the place is tiny, even by Parisian standards - you are sitting literally on your neighbour lap, and there is no space for a chair so don't bring a coat or bag. Third, even if the meat is of quality, the rest of the food is nothing remarkable. I have already written what I thought of the fries. The two sauces served are as interesting as a grey November Sunday, neither standing out by their quality, taste or originality. They do not bring anything to the dish. Fourth, service is slow. With such a minimalist menu, the absence of any complexities in the dishes offered, and modest number of tables (benches!), I cannot figure out why it did take so long to cook and serve a meat piece ordered to be rare? Why the fries are served 10 minutes before, so that they are half cold when the meat arrives? So, while the meat itself was good, the whole experience was disappointing. I do not understand the general good level of the reviews. Beyond the hype, there are no good reasons to...
Read moreThis is a memorable spot for dinner. It is very tiny and the seating is very very close together mostly on shared tables that are rusticly carved. The servers (and maybe part owners) are so friendly and warm that they seem like friends and the restaurant feels like you are eating at a friend's place. They only have 2 entrees in addition to a handful or so of "debuts". Each entree is served with a green salad and a wonderful mixture of thick-cut regular and sweet potato fries. I had the duck breast which was excellent and my wife the boeuf (tenderloin sliced thin) which was also excellent. They were served with a chimichurri sauce that was very good and goat cheese sauce that can be a dip for the fries or a sauce for the meat. The cheese flambe debut is wonderful. Wines by the glass were very good and very inexpensive. As long as you are in the mood for the style, it is a great place -- very cheerful!!! We were too full to try dessert but it looked...
Read moreMy husband and I came here for a Friday night dinner. The wait staff were welcoming, super kind and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was also great - the place is small, but we didn’t feel uncomfortable (granted we were sitting at the window, where there was a cool breeze).
The wine selection was excellent.
We ordered the baked Camembert (Claquos flambés), the bone marrow, and steak and fries.
The Camembert was sharp, but pleasant in small doses. The waitress advised one between two was plenty and she was right. The bone marrow beautiful. However the steak was not at the standard to reflect the price point. There was gristle throughout, which was unpleasant to chew and needed to be spit out. Given the restaurants’ ethos of only serving ethically sourced, high quality meat, we...
