The main reasons that I selected this hotel were:
Cleanliness Elevator (I was 32 weeks pregnant) Air Conditioning
All three categories that I was hoping for were missing, and I had a really rough time here. Looking back, it seemed like the receptionists were well aware of what we were encountering and just made us wait instead of helping us in an efficient manner.
When we arrived around 1:45pm, the receptionist told us the room wasn’t ready and told us to come back. When we came back at 2:15, they still made us wait. Our checked in was delayed for nearly 45 minutes and we were just sitting in the lobby, wasting our precious traveling in Paris.
Finally, the receptionist walked us to a stairwell (as pictured) and my poor husband had to move our heavy luggages up the stairs and me as a pregnant person had to walk up and down this staircase, which was super unsafe and scary!
When we opened the door, the room wasn’t completely cleaned yet and the room smelled like cleaning products. We were already very delayed with our museum tour and didn’t want to waste anymore time waiting so we left our luggages and left.
When we came back, the room still smelled like beach and I felt extremely sick. My allergies also got really bad that I had rashes all over my leg. To make things worse, the AC unit wasn’t working and when we asked for help, they told us we had to wait until the next morning for the technician to come and the AC.
Because they didn’t have any other rooms available, they couldn’t reassign us another room, so we were stuck in a room that smelled terrible and hot for the night.
After breakfast, around 10am, we asked the receptionist to check on our AC and he said he could not do anything until the manger arrive. He was cold and acted like we were bothering him. We requested to speak to the manger on the phone and he said he was not allowed to give us the manager’s number according to the law. We asked about the arrival time of the manager and he said he didn’t know, but we could continue to sit and wait (see how they kept on making us wait!!??) We also asked if they would 100% guaranteed that we would be reassigned a room if the AC was still not fixed, but he just kept on telling us to wait for the manager to arrive. (Did he realize HOW expensive it is to travel to Paris and our time is super costly???) Since we had no idea when the manager was coming or if our room situation would be improved, we felt ignored and disappointed that we didn’t want to waste anymore time at this place and left before noon.
When we told the receptionist we would like to go elsewhere and checked out immediately, he was cold and said, “…you can leave your key here, but you are not checked out.”
We later contacted Agoda’s customer support and the head manger regarding this whole situation and received a refund.
However, it was a daunting process and we can’t regain the time we lost and the tour we missed as we tried to deal with this unexpected situation and relocating to a new hotel. We should have been well rested and heading to a museum directly that morning.
I don’t know if they actually sold us a hotel room. Where we stayed seemed more like a spare room or resting area for their staff because our experience was very different from others who left great reviews on Google. The photos on Agoda were attractive and the rooms were furnished.
Staying at a place with good hygiene and receiving good rest are vital to travelers!
P.S. Besides the non-working AC, the ventilation system was extremely loud and couldn’t be shut down. We barely...
Read moreI had the unfortunate experience to stay at this hotel in May of 2025.
If I could give this place a 0 star rating I would.
The "customer service" is trash and nonexistent. I booked this hotel months in advance and upon check in was told that there was no working AC for the entire hotel. I did some digging and looking at prior reviews this was also the case weeks before my stay. When asked when that would be fixed during our stay they initially claimed that they would get it fixed as soon as possible but over the course of our stay that answered changed to tough luck kid, we are not fixing s*.
They attempted to offer a barebones "breakfast" as compensation. Who doesn't love stale bread and watery coffee!
Now you might be thinking, just open a window and let the natural city air cool down your temporary prison cell. That would be a great idea if you also love getting eaten alive by bugs and to be blasted awake by the cacophony of assorted street noises throughout the day and night.
The AC units in the hotel rooms also appear to be a very modern Toshiba mini-split. Keep this in mind as it will come up later.
So further on in the stay I was thinking that this could not get worse. I was wrong. The WIFI went out as well. At that point, I was in a room that was objectively worse than a hostel in a 3rd world country.
I booked a different hotel and I left this disgusting abomination of a 3-star hotel with no working HVAC or WIFI.
Something interesting happened at the new hotel. They also had the exact same Toshiba mini-split. Here's the kicker, they had a remote wireless lock on the mini-split that had to be turned off from the front desk in order for me to use the HVAC.
So that brings into question whether PARIS LAFAYETTE HOTEL HVAC was actually broken? or if they were attempting some disgusting cost saving methods on unsuspecting and uninformed tourists/victims.
Overall this hotel is trash and to be avoided at all costs. The price tag is low and for all the wrong reasons. You will be effectively staying in a small prison cell with no AC and no...
Read moreWe booked a studio room for 5 nights at a very favorable price. Room #8 that we got was nice but it is in two levels with the bedroom up under the roof and the aircondition is down in the living room. It got really hot in the bedroom and I could barely sleep - and this was before the heatwave kicked in. They were kind enough to give us room #6 below, which is somewhat smaller and just a single room. But here the aircon applied to the bed just fine and the room was a fine size for the two of us. In the colder months room #8 is probably the better room, but if you prefer to sleep in colder rooms during hot periods, ask not to get this room.
The people in the reception were always exceptionally friendly and helpful!
In the evening we often sat down in the reception area where there's a PC free to use.
The hotel is literally very centrally located. You have tons of restaurants, cafes, bistros and bakeries within a few hundred meters and Sacre Coeur is just a walk away. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel, so I can't comment on this. At the boulanger just around the corner they offer a "Formule gourmande" at 5,50 euro with croissant of your choice, fresh orange juice and a coffee of your choice and tables inside/outside. We just bought fresh croissants (1,20 euro) and had them in our room. Walk to the corner of Rue de Bellefond and Rue du Faubourg Poissonnieère for 0,80 euro croissants (almost as good). There's a Franprix supermarket just around the corner with 1,5 l mineral water for 0,30 euro. Strongly recommended because the tap water tastes bad (metallic).
Other notes: Room #8: The aircon makes a lot of noise. Compact bathroom with shower. Don't think it's a real double-bed; more like 1½. Room #6: The freezer has no lid and can't be used for ice cream, ice cubes. Bathroom with bathtub. There's an extra bed. Both rooms: Rooms face the inside of the building, so there's no view to anything and no balcony. Curtains are good so the room gets really dark at night. There's...
