Can't give 0 star. Stay away. Worst Indian restaurant so far I have found in so many countries I have visited both in terms of food and service. Being vegetarian, we were excited to find a vegetarian restaurant near the Notre Dame cathedral. So much we waited for it to open for the evening and were the first customer. Also built decent expectations looking at the ratings. Can't be more wrong. We ordered masala dosa with masala on the side (and not inside the dosa). The server refused to give the masala on the side separately. Found it very odd behavior. And when the food came, dosa was burnt and potato masala was stinking. We immediately complained to the server, he went in to check with the cook and came back that "the Cook is saying that it's good". We asked him to smell and eat himself. But his response was - yes I know but cant do anything as the cook is saying it's good.
We ordered poori - bhaji. Over fried burnt poories. Ordered plain dosa, it also came burnt.
Family at our adjoining table asked for paneer dosa, it came with a paneer dish inside the dosa, which the server shamelessly said that this is how their paneer dosa is.
Right when we were half way through the meal with our kids (after putting away the stinking masala dosa), it was announced that no credit card will be accepted, cash only, as their credit card machine is not working. I bet that they do this every time specially when they realize that the patrons are only tourists. In spite of complaining about the food, they billed for all the rotten food and didn't even bring the bill to the table, I have to walk up to him. Of course they didn't deserve any tips. I hope none of us get sock because of their...
Read moreA typical South India restaurant with 3-4 branches right next to each other (go to anyone as they all serve the same food) in the busy Indian/Sri Lankan area of Paris. The area is called La Chapelle and is around the corner from the well known Gare du nord. The area is a bit shady at night post 10 pm. So try to grab lunch or an early dinner. It's not unsafe but lot of weired activities happen. Anyways back to the restaurant. Food is simple, tasty, not expensive, good service with a smile, even though one lady single handedly runs the service part but she did a good job with our orders as the outlet we went to was a smaller one with a seating capacity of 30 people. It got really busy as soon as we got there and was full within 30 minutes. The restaurant serves only vegetarian food. Though the South Indian food is good, surprisingly the North Indians dishes we tried did not disappoint. Which is good as most of the restaurants in the area have a tendency to prepare all food south Indian style. They serve beer and wine however it is not mentioned on their menus but when you go there and ask they will be happy to serve you the same. Overall food was good but certain things like the coconut chutney had a old smell to it and didn't taste fresh and the sambhar lacked flavour. It was a Tuesday evening when we went and I guess they weren't expecting to be that busy but our table was handled well. Overall a nice experience with friends from London who enjoyed the food and were...
Read moreNormally this was my favorite place to go when ever I’m in Paris. It has been for the past 10 years! But after my last visit I’m never going back.
Plus point for me it the food is vegetarian.
Normally I take the masala dosa or a thali. I have tried other dishes in the past but it was disappointing every time.
This time we took two other dishes and ask for non spicy due to medical issues. Normally it’s not a problem. The waitress said the same and when the order came it was full with chili powder. I said something to the waitress and she said she couldn’t do anything about it except offer raita. And from experience I know that does not help because the chili is still being consumed is the problem. The answer was she couldn’t help us. Instead of offering another dish she just let it be. It’s a fault made by them and we still ended up paying for this dish.
Later we order something else which was better because it wasn’t loaded with chilies, but to be honest I wouldn’t recommend the pootjes either. They tasted burned.
While we were waiting for our second dish a tall lady wearing a face mask wanted to put out groceries containing food items on the floor. She was very rude about it and almost through the bag on the floor.
I have never encountered this behavior here, but this rude behavior and not taking diet restrictions into consideration means I won’t be...
