Small Scottish bar in the heart of Paris. Organizes a karaoke on Thursdays, but the MC seems to only pick songs offered by the regulars of the bar: a friend, who was a regular, got his one song picked 15 minutes into the night, meanwhile it took about 3 hours for any of my seven songs to get picked.
Beyond the karaoke, Highlander still sees its cons outweigh its pros. On one hand the higher prices compared to other bars in Paris means you're less likely to encounter drunkards puking in the bar. On the other hand the prices are unjustifiably high, given that Highlander is a small and relatively cramped bar, with a couple dart boards and not much more to set it apart.
Their cocktail selection is also very limited and they are unable to make most cocktails even if you ask for it.
All of these factors make Highlander a bar that one ought only go to if they really want an English-speaking bar to drink a pint and complain about the missus with the lads. However if that does sound appealing, then Highlander is admittedly a...
Read moreAs someone from Scotland, staff were polite, but not trained on whisky which is completely fair if they only get paid minimum wage, hopefully owners can train staff and pay them appropriately for their expertise on the subject in future if they are going to say they are a Scottish pub. However, it’s a bit of a bawbag move for a bar to charge double the price of what a whisky is worth in the middle of Edinburgh’s city centre when this is just across the pond, I sell whisky for a living so I know when I’m being ripped off… (I paid it because the lass already poured the dram before telling me the price). The toilets were also something to be desired as the toilets had no seat on either gents or ladies. The general vibe wasn’t super friendly amongst other patrons - not the bars fault/ covid is tough. I will give it to them for not having any brewdog in sight. Very small so better to head earlier in the afternoon unless you’re looking for a...
Read moreIt’s tough to leave a review like this for somewhere that felt like home away from home for my wife and I.
Highlander was to us and many others a place to share our worldly experiences. We had never smiled harder, hugged more meaningfully and left with the spirt of ‘we will see back here next time.’
We have spent so much time here and always looked forward to coming back. We would walk in and always knew we had someone to connect with, no matter the time of year.
This time we walked in and it felt like the soul of the place had left. We were so disappointed. We left not recommending this place to anyone.
Please find a manager that can find the soul of this place. The laughter, the joy, and the camaraderie are gone. Until that is found again, we...
