What was promising to be a reasonable Italian meal, sadly was frankly pitiful.
Ordered pasta with cream, panchetta, egg yolk... a pretty straight forward dish, or not as the case may be. Really undercooked pasta (not far away from crunchy - I like "al dente" pasta but this wasn't even that), very dry and hardly any sauce at all. Redeeming quality being the panchetta... which I guess you can't get wrong.
So after the average main course, and after a wait while the waiter finished tidying up tables to take our desert order (I thought I can't be disappointed twice right?), I asked for the pom flambee tart (rum, apples, tart, can't go wrong here...). This came out, and the flames happened, which was pretty...then dumped on the table. This was then followed by the realisation that it wasn't pastry used, but pizza bread?! We placed the order and asked for tap water, but they gave us bottled water (the one you pay for), curiously all the French tables had tap water, while we and other foreigners got bottled water (although we knew they were taking advantage we let it go). The serious problem was that they refused to charge us by card, because according to them "cards from outside France did not work in France", I was surprised because during our stay in Paris we paid everything by card. I understand that they should be charged more for some fee, which I can understand, but what doesn't seem appropriate to me is that they try to deceive you a second time and with a bad face (there would have been no problem if they had...
Read moreIn my 7 week stay in Paris this is the only restaurant that made us feel like unwelcome outsiders. When we came in the specials board was not shared with us, the waiter expression when we asked for a carafe of tap water made it clear that he did not approved of our choice. The food was okay but it was clear that they were not happy having two foreigners in their place!! To be clear, Paris and the Parisians have been warm, patient and understanding of my language challenges for seven weeks, this establishment was the exception and a complete outlier!! When we went to pay he told us no foreign credit cards despite having visa and MasterCard sign in their window. Bottom line, if you are not a French speaker you are not...
