What an incredible experience IMA is. I was able to sit at the bar and enjoyed dinner service while seeing the plating happening right in front of me. The chef spoke English well so I was able to ask questions and was treated with the utmost respect.

The food was some of the best I have ever had in France. Astonishing attention to detail, original and creative flavors, and plates prettier than a polished pearl made this dinner unforgettable. Authentic Japanese flavors intertwined with the flavors of Brittany were very fun to experience.

Not to mention, the service was near-impeccable. As a bleached-hair 20-year-old dude who spoke little French and ate by himself, my time in France was met with many weird looks and unfriendly experiences; however, the staff at IMA were friendly for every moment I was there. The sommelier was happy to teach me about wine and how it worked with the dishes. The waitresses were so attentive when it came to refilling water, taking finished plates, or sensing that I had a question to ask. They even taught me some French! All the staff would let me pass when walking through the restaurant, which made me feel like royalty and was incredible consistency across the board.

This was overall a very disappointing experience!

We had high expectations for this Michelin-starred restaurant, and unfortunately, our experience fell far short of what we expected. From the moment we arrived, the service was cold and inattentive. We were not asked if we wanted anything to drink before serving the food. We opted for the wine pairing they suggested and were were only served a few dishes in. The staff’s demeanor was cold and impersonal, and they made little effort to engage with us and were indifferent to whether or not we enjoyed our meal. The food itself was underwhelming. While the savory courses were okay, there was little harmony and a lack of creativity. The desserts were particularly disappointing, to say the least.

For a high-end restaurant, we expected much more care and attention, both in terms of service and the overall culinary experience. Unfortunately, this visit did not live up to what we had hoped for and we left feeling underwhelmed...

Amazing dinner experience for a more than fair price. 10 dishes, each with their unique flavours followed each other in a logical way. I will certainly recommend and come again when I'd be in Rennes The drink pairing was a bit hit or miss, with some excellent matches aswell as some strange combinations. E.g serving a super floral wine with earthy flavours in the course or the wine served with a dessert that got completely overpowered. I did also ask if there were some sakes in the pairing, which they confirmed... Yet there was just one (also paired with a dish that might have had a bit too much flavour for the sake to compete with.) Aside from that the sommelier did explain the wines nicely. I only missed some communication on why some dishes didn't get paired. We got 7 wines for 10 dishes. I would understand having just one wine for 3 desserts, or one wine for 2 smaller courses, but having nothing to drink, because we didn't know no wine was following...

I recently visited IMA Restaurant and was thoroughly impressed with their expertise in cooking with ginger, galangal, and other Asian spices. The flavors of their dishes were simply divine, and I could taste the freshness of the ingredients in every bite. It's no surprise that they have been awarded a Michelin star and "étoile verte" for their commitment to sustainability. Apart from the food, I was also taken aback by the restaurant's ambiance and location. It was a perfect blend of contemporary design and traditional Asian elements, which made for a delightful dining experience. The restaurant's location in Rennes was also a great plus, as it was easy to find and accessible. Overall, I highly recommend IMA Restaurant for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in Rennes. From the exquisite dishes to the fantastic ambiance and location, IMA Restaurant truly deserves its Michelin star and "étoile verte" recognition."
