8.50euro for bitter cappuccino and a 2"x3" square of dry lemon cake from black-table Citizen Coffee. I threw the cake to the birds and the circling bees were welcome to the bitter coffee.
Service took 15 minutes.
The coffee is bitter.even when specifically requesting plus du lait. Another time I was there, I tried tea. It was served warm. Inexcusable. Air-exposed cakes are dry on the outside and undercooked on the inside. When I was checking out, I warned that I was going to say something negative. I told them they need to cover the cakes because they are drying out. I told her that I had thrown mine to the birds because it was so bad. She said ok. Processed my bill. Totally unrepentant.
Beware the table drama. You won't notice at first, but there are two Citizen coffee shops side-by-side. One has black tables and one has white tables. If you order your coffee from one, you cannot sit at the other's tables.
The first time, I went to black-table citizen coffee, staff was enjoying a cigarette outside, told me they were closing, so no coffee for me. That should have been my first clue. Next time, I went to Citizen Coffee shop on the corner (white tables), and assumed it was the same since they have the same name, are literally connected by a wall & they are owned by the same guy, but for some reason they won't share table territory.
When I ordered from White table Citizen coffee, I sat at a black table. I was waiting for my coffee when I was advised I was sitting in the wrong place. I was confused. "You both have the same name, but I can't sit at the black tables?" Nope. White table Citizen Coffee didn't have tables in the shade.
O.M.G. with so many other coffee shops, avoid this one. Don't get suckered by the courtyard. You will just be throwing away your money and might even get stung by one...
Read moreWe found this cafe in the center of Rouen through TikTok reviews and decided to try it for brunch as a group of six. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. From the moment we arrived, the staff were unaccommodating and unwelcoming. Despite having empty tables inside, they insisted we sit outside. Only after we pointed out the available space and were met with a visibly annoyed expression were we reluctantly allowed to sit indoors.
The poor service didn’t stop there. No one came to take our order for over 30 minutes, despite us asking several times. A staff member kept telling us “someone will come,” yet no one ever did. Meanwhile, other guests who arrived after us were served promptly.
Eventually, we had no choice but to walk out. Not a single staff member acknowledged or apologized as we left. The entire experience felt unprofessional and unpleasant. I would absolutely not recommend this place. If I could give zero...
Read moreLoveliest staff - everybody is smiling and greeting you, despite being very busy. Special thank you to Juliette for an impeccable service. The chef and other staff are also super kind. We visited with our dog and they brought him water and all treated nicely. We appreciated being told upfront that the wait is 45min, which we were willing to wait. The majority of cafes won’t tell you that, and you’ll be disappointed for the wait, especially on weekends - so we were definitely grateful for a heads up. Their coffees are delicious!!! I’m pretty sure it’s roasted right here too, so even if you’re not hungry, at least visit for a cup of coffee. We ordered shakshuka and salty pancakes with bacon and egg (without maple syrup since we don’t eat sugar), together with drinks it was a total of €33.50, which is very affordable for the quality and service they offer. Really great! Extra round of applause...
