I wanted a steak for lunch, and my number one choice for meat in SM, le Millesime is open only in the evening. So I just typed steak in Google Maps and found this place literally next door. Reviews were excellent and i decided to give it a try.
I ordered what I came here for - entrecôte, perfect quality, succulent, juicy and tasty, 250g just over 20 euros.
The beer I took with it happened to be very good Baltic porter, type of beer not very common in France.
Couple of remarks, the waitress brought the beer already opened, big 'faux pas dans ce metier'. Well obviously in this particular case you cannot mistake Baltic porter for something else, but still beer has to be opened at the table.
Second, I opted for a table outside on a side street and as it was uneven, so was the table.
Still I decided not to lower my mark for this restaurant as I enjoyed my meal very much.
Update: I came here a second time, the only restaurant I returned to during my week stay in SM, this time in the evening as I wanted to try their steak de thon mi-cuit. It was delicious and quite sizable portion too. I only wished there was more of the 'sauce vièrge'.
I again ordered the same beer, and this time the same young girl opened it at my table. Maybe read...
Read moreWe came here for dinner on the last night of our 1 week "honeymoon in the time of COVID," and the food and experience were exactly what we were hoping for. We had a starter, mains, desserts and a bottle of wine for 72 EUR, which I think would cost almost double here in Belgium for the same quality. The setting is cozy and unpretentious, and if you happen to sit downstairs you can watch the owners/cooks making your meal. The meal itself was delicious, I had an andoiulle (SP?) style sausage served with veggies and my wife had a cajun themed dish (similar to Jambalaya). The food was rich and flavorful, and it gave me nice home-cooked/soul food vibes. We asked for a strong red wine, and they recommended a nice bottle. The desserts were tasty as well, and after our meal, Kate offered us a shot from their selection of house-spiced rum, and told us the story of why rum is popular in St. Malo. We really enjoyed our experience here, it was the perfect last meal to cap off our honeymoon. if you want to enjoy a cozy meal with a partner or friend, I'd highly...
Read moreThis intimate little restaurant admittedly was not our first choice when we arrived late in the evening, but I am so glad the other place was full and we ate here instead. Our water had the best, dry sense of humour and encouraged my struggling use of schoolgirl French. I ordered the the chef's special and my husband had a 'complete' and we were offered a taste of some finely sliced pork tongue which made me wish I had room for one with that also. Parchment fine galette freshly cooked seemed to have been touched with a brush of melted butter before being sent out. I hope I can return to St Malo one day and also return to this...
