Summary: we attended this place with a big group and had a very bad experience, but i guess they just can't handle big groups..
We had to preorder the starter, main course and dessert and already had a limited amount of dishes to choose from. After we emailed our order, some days later some options were canceled.
At the restaurant we had to wait for a long time before we were able to order our drinks. After ordering we had to wait some time for our drinks.
The food was terrible. The beef stew was not really a stew. It lacked a rich stew sauce. And the beef itself had no taste at all and it was not seasoned. The spaëtzles were cold and dry. Another person ordered the rösti. It also lacked seasoning. And one person even had a bug in her dish.
The service is mediocre and some of the waiters are really rude. After the person complained about the bug in her dish they answered something like: "Well that's some extra proteine, right?" Another person got the wrong dish. After some time the waiter came back and stated: "Well we don't have the other dish, just take this one." (or so)
After we finished the three courses we wanted to leave and pay for everything we consumed. But they stated: you have to pay for everything you ordered in advance. The difference was only some pitchers of beer. And after the complaints they should have understood why we wanted te leave and just let us pay the actual bill.
Another guest that joined us didn't preorder and was able to choose from a big list of options. His food was also well prepared and het didn't had to wait too long for his food.
Yes it was crowded. But the restaurant clearly wasn't able to deliver good quality food and service tonight. Despite of the fact we already preordered some weeks in advance. A professional restaurant should do much better. And the waiters should ask themselves: what does good service...
Read moreAu Brasseur is a casual brewpub with average beer, good food, and great service. It occupies a 3-story white building with shuttered windows and a narrow maroon and white sign for the brewpub. Strasbourg has several large parking decks, which can fill up with visitors on the weekend, so try to arrive early. Outside are several patio tables, which is nice when the weather is pleasant. The interior has a brick floor, brick walls and a low ceiling painted pale green. There are plenty of dining tables with more downstairs in the basement. The atmosphere is cozy and friendly, with pop background music playing. In the center is a two-sided wooden bar with 10-chairs. Behind the bar is a windowed green tiled room which houses their midsize faded copper brewing vessels. A nearby room houses 3 short wood jacketed fermenters, and another tiny windowed room holds their grain mill. They have 4 core beers on tap, which are available by glass or sampler flight. They often carry a 5th seasonal brew, and they also offer a flavored version of their Blonde mixed with Picon caramel flavored bitters regional to northern France. The beers are decent and very drinkable, but just average, nothing exceptional. Near the entrance are shelves of their bottled product for sale to go. Their food menu consists of salads, sausages, flammekueches flatbreads, burgers, sandwiches, Alsaciennes specialties and various other main dishes. The service is excellent - welcoming, friendly and amiable. This is a charming,...

AVOID.
We made a reservation in advance because we were a group of nearly 10 people. However when we arrived we were asked to wait outside and when we asked how long we would have to wait the waiter said "I don't know". We ended up waiting outside for over half an hour before we could get inside. During this time, many other customers in group of 3-4 were invited in. We talked to the waiter that we are happy to sit separately on two tables, but they refused.
The room was so noisy, I couldn’t hear the people around me at all, but I didn’t understand that speaking our native language at a normal volume would result in an eye roll?
The menu is all in French, no English, the waiter tried to explain to us what was on the menu, but had limited English. When I wanted to pay my bill at the end of the meal, the wait was so long that I had to chase the bartender and tell the waiter that I wanted to pay my bill. It was very difficult for the waiter to bring us extra plates and glasses during the meal. The kettle was taken away instead of being refilled when it was empty. BTW, his service to other French-speaking is far better than our table. Even we asked for something politely, he chose not to respond to us and walk away.
If you're a tourist who only speaks English, or doesn't look like a local, you're not going to have a...
