Our family of 4 stayed at the Hotel Suisse for 3 nights in the lead up to Christmas 2023. We selected this hotel for its character, the amazing location, and the Alsace family room (with a Cathedral view) that was able to comfortably fit the 4 of us. A bonus of this room was the incredible view of the Cathedral, just across the road! The Christmas markets also started just across the road, which was one of our key criteria. The room was on the corner of the first floor, and as such was spacious and comfortable, with a modern bathroom and a table to spread out on. Note that there was no refrigerator in the room, but the front desk staff were able to assist by storing my medications (and a spare bottle of wine!) until i needed them. We travelled with extended family who had one of the double Cosy rooms (with a Cathedral view), also on the first floor, and that room was very small and extra cosy so be aware if that is an important factor. The front desk and restaurant (breakfast) staff were all excellent, being attentive and helpful. They were able to provide gluten free breakfast options on request and the breakfast is primarily a continental type, although boiled eggs can also be ordered. The area is generally pedestrian only (at least at Christmas time) however taxis can be arranged before 11 am which front desk staff are happy to organise. Note that the old town is closed after 11am (checkpoints on the bridges) so if you arrive in the afternoon as we did, be prepared to be dropped outside the old town (~6-7 min walk) and wheel your cases to the hotel. We can highly recommend this hotel if you are visiting the Christmas markets, and don't forget to visit the coffee shop next door (Bistrot et Chocolate) for amazing...
Read moreHotel Swisss has a lot going for it. The location is amazing, the building is charming, and the price is fair. The staff are also very friendly. The only catch? You have to actually find them first. The receptionist is like a rare Pokémon, occasionally appearing before vanishing to cover shifts in mysterious parts of the hotel. Need assistance? Good luck, this place turns customer service into an interactive treasure hunt.
Now, let’s talk about the noise. If you’ve ever wanted to experience what it’s like to be sonar pinged awake every hour, this is the hotel for you. The church bells don’t just chime, they perform. You might like that, but its not for me. And the walls? Let’s just say they have the soundproofing capabilities of wet tissue paper. I now know way too much about my neighbors’ nighttime routines.
Breakfast was an experience. I can only assume they serve juice in shot glasses and provide teaspoons for cereal as part of some kind of psychological experiment. Either that or they’re training guests to eat like 18th-century aristocrats. I felt like I should’ve been wearing a powdered wig while carefully rationing my cornflakes.
Despite all this, the hotel’s beauty, friendly staff once located, and great location make it a decent choice. Just bring noise-canceling headphones, a magnifying glass to find the receptionist, and maybe a full-sized spoon if you plan on eating breakfast like a normal...
Read moreOne of the worst, if not the worst hotel I have ever been to. What can I say about it? If you're a cleistrophobe forget it, if you're allergic forget it. Inside (except for the bathroom) everything is old and dirty. That vicious nonsense of stains and dust, the bed that was supposed to be a double twin bed as uncomfortable as you can imagine, the noise from other people's toilets plus the noise from outside at 3am plus the noise from the garbage trucks didn't let me sleep. I didn't even manage to sleep one night. Nightmare. The water didn't run well plus the last day it was cold. I don't understand the reviews at all but it's not the first time I guess. 180€ per night and of course breakfast is not included and to be honest even if it was after my first night time allergic reaction I wouldn't dare. Never again! Save yourselves from this place. I don't like doing reviews like that but this one was...
