Waffle Factory — Restaurant in Strasbourg

We had just been to the large market and had a couple of heavy bags of groceries. My kids wanted ice cream so we sat in their seating area. We were getting situated and had a bag on the table.

An employee, obviously disturbed by us, comes over and mutters something in French, but we don't speak much French, so I gestured to the bag and she nodded. I thought she wanted me to take the bag off the table, so I did so.

30 seconds later, another employee comes out. He spoke English and said we couldn't sit there if we hadn't ordered anything. We told him we had just sat down and we were going to order. He said that we had been sitting too long without ordering. It was literally a few minutes.

What the hell??! There were probably about ten tables in this seating area and only 2 tables were occupied. So quick to kick us out when we explicitly said we were about to order ice cream.

Most establishments we have been to in Europe this trip- France, Germany, Austria- have been spectacularly accommodating and nice.

Please don't give this place your money. There are a ton of other places to get...

Client depuis plusieurs années, je n'étais pas revenu depuis quelques mois (pour raisons personnelles..) et j'ai recommencé à consommer chez Waffle Factory depuis 2 mois, quasiment 1X/mois. Ce que je constate, c'est que lorsque le Responsable (un grand, légèrement chauve) est présent, le service est pro, respecté, rapide, efficace ... avec sourire et politesse. Dès lors que celui-ci n'est pas présent, c'est la catastrophe. Je vois que les employés sont totalement à côté de la plaque, pour traiter les produits et servir les clients. Ce lundi 23/10/2023, je suis venu pendant ma pause déjeuner ; j'étais pressé pour manger, mais au final, j'ai attendu + de 5 min à la caisse, alors qu'aucun client n'était présent aux tables d'à côté et que les employés étaient occupés à jouer sur leur smartphone. J'ai du "toquer" sur le comptoir de la caisse, pour attirer leur attention, afin qu'enfin un des employé daigne lever la tête et se dire qu'il fallait venir me servir. A la prise de commande, attitude pas professionnelle, froide et sans dialogue positif. Lorsque j'ai récupéré ma commande (lorsque le petit appareil à bippé...), je suis venu prendre le plateau et on m'a juste donné le tout sans phrase de courtoisie (un bon appétit serait apprécié... ça ne coûte rien...). Très déçu de découvrir que les tables sur place ne sont pas forcément nettoyées régulièrement... Pour un service du midi, relativement intense, ça serait appréciable de manger sur des tables propres... Merci. Dans l'ensemble, un peu déçu... même si les produits sont bons... Dommage. Petit pincement...

Having been in this place twice during my visit in Strasbourg I might say I really liked it. Its true that the tables may have not been as cleaned as wished, but I think people should remind themselves that during rushing hours most of them leave the tables in a disgusting manner and that two or three people with rushing orders are not able to do everything at once.
