La Boule de Neige — Restaurant in Thonon-les-Bains

Looks like a nice and popular restaurant, first impressions were good. We hadn’t booked and they did get us a table for 3 without issue. Unfortunately that’s where the positives end! The service was poor, slow and distinctly uninterested. Both pasta dishes (Carbonara & bolognaise) were not fresh and poorly microwaved with an interesting combination of hotter than the sun and colder than hell going on. The drinks did arrive quickly which was appreciated! Although the second round of drinks (which were the same as the first, 3 Pepsi) were considerably smaller than the first and without ice?! The dessert was the final straw! The crepe was cold & stale and the cafe gourmand my wife ordered was totally different to the local/french patrons on the tables surrounding us? The restaurant at this point was absolutely packed and we had our dishes passed over to us from the next table of customers as the waiter couldn’t reach us. We then struggled for a further 5 minutes to get some cutlery for our desserts. At this point we’d had enough and simply left the extremely poor food, asked for the bill, paid and left. No one bothered to enquire why the desserts had been left and no reduction in the bill offered. We love Avoriaz and have been skiing there for many years. The whole place is amazing with extremely friendly & lovely locals. This restaurant though leaves you with the feeling that you’re paying to be treated like a second rate citizen. Une expérience déplorable, à éviter absolument !

Nous avons vécu une soirée catastrophique dans ce restaurant. Dès notre arrivée, l'ambiance était très bruyante, rendant la conversation difficile. Nous commandons deux plats de pâtes (dont un compris dans le menu enfant) et une pizza. Surprise : les plats de pâtes et les boissons arrivent immédiatement, mais la pizza se fait attendre… et attendre… beaucoup trop longtemps.

Nous avons été obligées, ma fille et moi, de commencer à manger pendant que mon conjoint attendait sa pizza, sinon nos assiettes auraient été froides. Situation absurde : nous avions terminé nos assiettes et la pizza n'était toujours pas servie. Comble du manque de professionnalisme, la serveuse est venue retirer nos assiettes alors que mon conjoint n'avait même pas encore son plat !

Après avoir signalé ce problème, on nous informe que la pizza n'est même pas encore en préparation. Excédés, nous décidons de partir, laissant mon conjoint sans dîner et ma fille sans son dessert inclus dans son menu enfant.

J’ai demandé un geste commercial, mais la serveuse, visiblement peu concernée, s’est contentée de déduire la pizza. Après avoir insisté au comptoir, nous avons obtenu, non sans difficulté, le menu enfant offert, avec un "ce genre de soucis arrive" en guise d’excuse. Inacceptable !

C’est le premier restaurant où nous voyons des plats servis à des moments totalement décalés, un service aussi désorganisé, et des assiettes retirées alors qu’un convive n’est pas servi. De plus, ce que nous avons mangé était très médiocre et ne justifiait en rien les prix exorbitants.

Un établissement à fuir ! Il est impensable de payer pour une expérience aussi...

We came at what looked like the beginning of dinner service as it was fairly quiet. Our food came out very fast, a bit too fast. It was very small in size and seemed like it was last nights reheated food. As the place filled up we could see other people had ordered the same as us and the dishes looked a lot fresher and larger.
