My hubby had been looking forward to dining at Captain Jack's since making plans to go back to Disneyland Paris. We really should have paid more attention to the reviews.
Our server, D, was horrible and rude. She was working five tables near us two two-tops, one four-top, one six-top, and us (three-top). After we were seated, we heard the other tables loudly complaining about our slow and rude server.
After more than 15 minutes sitting at our table, we still hadn't been greeted let alone drink order taken. I looked around and one of the two-tops silently pointed out who our server was supposed to be while rolling their eyes and making a face. I finally catch her attention, and she walks over.
We gave her our full order. Three Cokes, tap water, appetizers, main courses, and desserts. She walks off.
After about ten minutes, she comes back with the appetizers, two Cokes, and a bottle of mineral water. Before we can say anything, she walks off. I look around to find her. Both two-tops are looking for her too. We all have this look like what the heck.
I finally flag her down after ten minutes and let her know we wanted tap water. She gave us a nasty look, snatched the mineral water and took off.
By this time, we notice that the original two-top that pointed her out to us has left. We heard someone say they dined and dashed. The other two-top finally got water, but ended up leaving before eating. The four-top was complaining to one of the people with an earpiece. From that point on, another server was taking care if them.
A little over an hour after we initially sat down, our server plopped a bottle of water down and took off again. We never had an opportunity to say anything to her. Our appetizer plates were completely empty by this time.
Time passes once again. Water bottle was empty and appetizer plates were empty. Still no server. We finally had enough. I approached a person with an earpiece and let him know that we just wanted to pay for what we ate and leave. I also let him know that we shouldn't have had to wait for over an hour for water. He was polite and wanted to investigate the issue, but I told him we didnt trust our server and just wanted to leave.
D shows up with our ticket. Rude and angry. No apologies. No explanation. Just an attitude.
I know others have had a wonderful experience at Captain Jack's. I just wish...
Read moreWe have been coming to this restaurant in Disneyland for years as a family and have always enjoyed it, the food was variable but the service and atmosphere made it worth it every time. This time I ordered some lovely dishes, starting with the fish soup and having the chicken for main. My brother had the pork starter and pork main, both of which weren’t very hot, and the main was extremely dry, so wouldn’t recommend them. However, I was told by my godmother that the fish main was delicious.
The main reason for the negative stars was the service. My waitress at the table was amazing and really went above and beyond for us, but the man on the desk was horrible.
Although I’m English, I am fluent in French due to studying French law and living in Paris. When I arrived at the restaurant, I tried to explain that we had a booking for 8 people but on two tables of 4, since we booked the table late, however I was cut off and made to speak in English, which I understood since he probably heard my accent and assumed. After explaining that we are now 6 people, I asked if we could be on one table, maybe put some extra chairs at the table, but he explained this was not possible, which I understood, after working since 14 year old in the hospitality industry. He was very rude but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. After finishing our meal and paying the bill, we went to sit with the table of 4, after asking both waiters and waitresses if it was okay. They brought chairs that weren’t being used at tables, so we didn’t cause any problems. The receptionist then came up to the waiter in this section and asked in French ‘why are there six people around this table, I told them they had to sit separately’. He then tapped me on the shoulder and said in English ‘by the way, this would not be allowed usually’. I then responded (rather angrily) that we had paid our bill and asked if we could sit here whilst our family finished their desserts. He then asked me to point out which waiters since he didn’t believe me. Whilst I was explaining he then walked away whilst I was still talking. His name was Armando and he managed to irritate probably the most understanding person in restaurants.
Unfortunately, after this experience we will never...
Read moreLet’s face it, when in a Disney Park, you have to adjust your cost to quality expectations as prices at any sit-down restaurant are exorbitant. That said, I’ve had really satisfying experiences at both Bistrot Chez Remy and Walt’s An American Restaurant. So we decided to give Captain Jack’s a try for our son’s birthday. The only word that comes to mind is horrendous. Prices aside, I can’t remember the last time I’ve had such terrible food at a restaurant. The chicken and prawns tasted like a TV dinner with half a can of curry dumped into it. My son tried one bite then resorted to the small coconut bowl of plain white rice and red beans. My mahi mahi had to have come from the deep recesses of the freezer. Tasted like they microwaved it in the plastic to thaw it, then baked it in the oven for half the required time, before dumping what was surely a prepackaged microwaved tomato-based sauce on top of this pathetic piece of fish flesh. Tasted like rubbery sea water. I had one bite (which I immediately spit out) then I set the plate to the edge of the table. Our server, who was very nice and apologetic, collected the plate and offered bread and more rice. I pre-ordered the birthday cake (which really just buys you a quick rendition of happy birthday sung by the staff). The song and presentation was nice, the cake however was rather awful! It has a very unpleasant layer of this sort of lemon, citric acid jam, sandwiched between very cheap layers of milk chocolate filler. Who puts lemon on kid’s cake???! The kids tasted the lemon and immediately begin asking for something else. There were so many other little strikes here as well, from them not having several items from the allergy free menu that is standard across all the park’s restaurants, to simple things like telling us to keep our forks between courses. The only positives were the cool ambiance of dining in the ride, and the friendliness of the staff, who though extremely apologetic, were clearly not empowered to make any problems right. Worst 230€ I’ve ever spent. Avoid this place like scurvy… which you’ll definitely have if you eat...
