The atmosphere was non existent as we sat in a room full of people whispering and looking very tense. One waiter did his best to service everyone, but we were left for a long time without human contact, or a drink for that matter. He was also very unclear on what had nuts and what didn't, which isn't ideal when one of us has a nut allergy...!
As the food came out it became apparent that the chef had over complicated things and the food just wasn't up to standard I'm afraid. Neither rustic french or fine dining, it was in the middle and lacked identity, authenticity and deliciousness. Numerous things were not right including a broth with no backbone, falafel that didn't have that lovely crunch and then soft texture inside, a kebab that was presented neatly but would have been better executed at a decent kebab shop at 3am after a load of drinks (needed fat and love), a "cheese" dessert which was hilarious - a big dollop of blue cheese, bowl of lettuce (just lettuce) and a tiny brioche with something on top. I had the baked cheese cake which lacked any life whatsoever as I attempted mouth to mouth to bring it back. I ate 1/3 of it and had to stop. We were hungry afterwards and had to go and find food which is really sad.
The dishes didn't really relate either? We were dipping our toes in and out of the middle east, coupled with other more stateless dishes. Refugees if you will.
The chef then comes out, table by table, to get his thanks and applause which is awkward at the best of times, but even more awkward when he asked me for feedback which I provided, relaying the above to him in some detail.
I have nothing against the chef or the restaurant (very cute setting), but during our trip it was our only poor meal. You're spoilt for choice in Toulouse and I would recommend somewhere else. All the best and I hope you can find your way to better food.
*Since writing this I've had an angry chef contact me via Instagram which wasn't very nice, accusing me of "not respecting the work of others". However I always respect the work of others and I celebrate great restaurants! Be warned if you leave...
Read moreIf what I read and my memory serves me right..It seems they’re a couple and both chefs who opened their own place, and I respect that. It’s like this is their baby. My theory is right because Nicolas, one of the owners came to every table making sure everything was okay. My first word were, « We didn’t get the pork! ». We picked the 7 plate course, which is « omakase » they choose which mains you get since there were 3 and we only get 2. Basically, when you get there and you see specific things you like in the menu, go for the 3 plate or 4 course because you can choose. They will explain it when you order, and we listened but just hoped for the best I guess. I chose the Diner Dégustation because I wanted to do the taste sampling of their dishes but didn’t go all the way to Super Dégustation which is like 9 plates I think because I just couldn’t simply eat that much.
So the interior is great, they exposed the original bricks of the building and put industrial decor. They have an outdoor patio next to the kitchen, not very appealing to me, but if you are like boho chic then you wouldn’t mind to be seated there.
For the taste, it is indeed yummy..Exceptional in fact, for the regular eater, or non-foodie. For me, honestly, very good but not especially memorable or mind-blowing. I have eaten in many Michelin rated restaurants and as greatly rated restaurants go..this is a strong 3.5 for me. The plates are not very elevated as I expected, it could bring more tastes in the dishes. It’s like the plates you know you can make at home but they elevated it but not something I’d wait to book for weeks before I can come. As the reservations here for dinner is pretty challenging. Overall, it’s a high recommend for lunch. As they always seem to have table...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant in 2021 and we had a really nice time so decided to go back again but what a terrible disappointment. Each dish was incredibly bland, pretty tasteless and definitely not worth the money. I had a ravioli which was ok but its was drenched in what could only be called vegetable water, it was not seasoned and was very ordinary. They grow their own veg? well the product produced is not great, good ingredients are key to the food tasting excellent . The tomato salad was equally non eventful, the two desserts the blueberry biscuit and peach Breton were bad, my sorbet tasted of water with a hint of blueberry. I finding it harder to trust Michelin guided restaurants as the actual cooking is not living up to...
