We went out in Troyes for the second time this week looking for a restaurant to sample the local andouillette. We had been recommended Chez Felix, but once again they had no room for us. Luckily, we were recommended L'Illustré instead as somewhere we could get AAAAA accredited andouillette and I'm very glad they had room for us. We took a table outside, which is a great way to experience the full vibrance of Troyes. By now I was more confident in ordering andouillette in French (I am not a native French speaker) and the waiter realised immediately that me and my partner were both andouillette fans. I ordered the andouillette with the Chaource sauce (Once again inspired by the song "l'Andouillette au Chaource" by Gildas Marronnier and his Prunelles). My partner opted for the mustard sauce. We enjoyed the accompaniment of local blonde beer with our main course, and I followed the superb andouillette with the cheese board as a dessert. Once again, I was utterly satisfied with the excellent andouillette available in Troyes. The restaurant staff were friendly and attentive, and the local cheeses on offer were the perfect end to a great evening.
I feel a great affinity with Troyes, it is a beautiful part of France with some of the best food that can be found anywhere in the World. We were lucky to be able to enjoy such a great culinary experience...
Read moreThe only reason I gave this place two stars is because the location is lovely and the decorations inside is very charming. Everything else was amounting to terrible and I don't even know where to start. We were sat quickly, but waited 15 minutes for a menu and only after I flagged down a waiter and asked for one. As I was a part of a party of four, when they gave us a single menu we were confused, not only due to the lack of menus but also how different it was compared to the one posted outside. Only 4 basic dessert options, not any of the 10 others posted outside. Then our food arrives (a 6,50€ meal including a drink and a dessert) and my crepe is cold, dry, and can barely be considered a Nutella crepe as it had two drops of chocolate. The hot chocolate was obviously from a packet and pasty. As we are in the middle of eating the waiter, who was previously aimlessly walking around, hands us the check and proceeds to make us pay WHILE STILL EATING. Ridiculous service, and premade food. Also we had to distribute our own silverware and napkins since the server decided to randomly drop it all on the table. 26€ bill, for 4 formulas would be good if the food and service was actually decent. Definitely go to ANY...
Read moreWhat a dreadful restaurant. A cheesy imitation French restaurant where most of the food comes out of a tin. This place is managed and run by hourly paid staff who have no interest in the customers. The glasses smelt of dirty dishwasher, the crisps offered as an aperitif were stale and damp, and the food itself was simply dreadful. We tried a couple of fish dishes and they tasted as if they'd been defrosted and re-freezed a couple of times over, and the chips were served in small tins so were soggy and clearly had been microwaved to order. We skipped dessert after we saw what was the few other customers were having. On a positive note, the wine was OK and the waitresses were trying hard to make up for the poor food coming from the kitchen. This restaurant would probably benefit enormously if it were independently run or family run. As it stands, it's just an...
