I'm torn on this one. The weather was nice so we ideally wanted to enjoy a meal outside but they were all reserved so we settled for a table inside, which was still pleasant, though we were the only people dining inside. The service was friendly, and when they did mess up our order slightly, they were quick to apologize and correct it. We came here as part of my tour of trying every schnitzel in Berlin, so of course I ordered the Wiener Schnitzel (vom Kalb) as my main and my date got the Schweineschnitzel mit Champignonsrahm und Bratkartoffeln. It came out pretty quickly, but my date got fries instead of Bratkartoffeln. Like I said, they were quick to apologize, though, and let her keep the fries while they brought out fresh Bratkartoffeln for her. My Kalbschnitzel came in two pieces. The first one, I found the meat to be a bit tough and the breading was falling off, making it hard to eat gracefully. So I was a little disappointed. But then I started on the second piece, which was muuuch more tender and stayed together very well. So I was impressed with the schnitzel, but only half, sadly. I also tried some of my date's pork schnitzel, which was good, but we agreed the mushroom sauce tasted like cream of mushroom out of a can. Even with those minor letdowns, we opted to order the Kaiserschmarrn for dessert, because you have to if it's on the menu, right? It came with a chocolate drizzle, which I found a bit odd, but the pancakes were cooked to perfection, so I'm glad we ended on a high note. When we asked to pay, they offered to move us outside for some after-dinner drinks, but it was too late at that point (I wish they'd offered earlier), so we headed out. Overall, I wanted this place to be better, but there are plenty more schnitzels in the sea, and maybe you'll have better luck than we did with the seating...
Read moreWell, what can I say. We didn't get to taste the Schnitzel we fancied. We didn't get to sample the coffee, I wanted to write about. We didn't get to taste anything but cold and rude reception from afar. We went there as a mixed couple with our 8 month old daughter. Thing is, we were misled by the big letters screaming "Deutsches Restaurant" - thinking it referred to the food.
Clearly not as people of colour are simple not served, not asked and not spoken too, not by the staff and not by the boss. The boss and waitress clearly seen us, looked directly at us.
30 minutes in the sun, outdoor sitting area only half full, tables around us have been attended to numerous times, if only for more lemon at extra charge, but no one could be bothered the extra 4 steps to attend to our table (or was instructed not too).
We left after half an hour of being simply ignored.
Deutsches Restaurant - indeed it is.
Shameful, just shameful and very unbecoming for a restaurant anywhere and...
Read moreNice people, friendly and accommodating. The menu is small, which is only an issue based on the quality of food relative to price. Overall I would not give a recommendation, based on my experience it was below average food. It may have been a bad day so may be worth trying again. I selected the Argentinian Steak, sadly it was greasy and tough due to poor cooking. Looking at other dishes from our table they were also not cooked very well or not to restaurant standard. While the overall price is not expensive, when they quality of food is generally poor it becomes expensive. It is a shame as the people there seemed very nice, and the atmosphere is relaxed and location is good. If the food is improved it would be a great place to go. For location, atmosphere and people I would give 4 stars, for food 2 stars so overall I think 3 stars is fair. If you go I would suggest researching the dishes first, seems like their schnitzel is supposed to be good so maybe this is the dish...
