This was my first time trying Korean cuisine, and I gotta say this was not a good choice to start with 😄 Although it was very crowded, I didn't find the food very healthy and well served. First of all, the tables were suuuper greasy that i had to wash my whole arms! secondly the food brought to our table seemed like there was no effort in making them like the pork was just brought out of the freezer and it was all frozen with ice on them. That's why it was super cheap, for two people we spent like 30€ and ate like a dog! 😂 The other thing that ruined my experience was that all the tables are very near each other and had oven on them. they were all frying pork, meat, .... which made there smell like burned oil and the smell made my appetite gone 😅 The staff didn't talk to us at all and were in a rush! one of them that was serving us knocked us out of the way with his elbow 😂 I think there must be better Korean restaurants that I would have had better experience with but It's cheap fast and it seems like so many people like it, not me though haha

I lived in Korea for six years, and here's what makes my heart sing about Arirang Bulgogi: it's exactly like all the slapdash-but-totally delicious restaurants I ever ate at in Seoul. The best meals I had in Seoul were always at some random little shop down an alley where an old lady was running the place and sleeping on a mat in the back room, and there was no decor whatsoever - just chairs and tables. But amazing food, like the wisdom of twenty grandmothers concentrated in the banchan on your table. This place is a bit like that: the decor is obviously from the space's previous life as a Greek restaurant. Nothing is fancy. The service is reasonably fast, but basic. But the food is so good, so authentic, and unlike at so many other Korean restaurants in Berlin, the side dishes are included - you don't have to select them in addition to the main order. They just come to the table, like in Korea! Check this place out. It's a gem!

Ariran Bulgogi has a large variety of Korean meals. Among all Arirang restaurants in Berlin, this one is the most easily accessible one, located on Bornholmerstrasse. They have tons of individual meals, from Bibimbab to Sam Gyeopsal. Besides they offer the menus in all their restaurants, which generally combine a soup, ketchup chicken and a meat barbecue where you get to cook your meat on your table with extra vegetables and rice noodles. You get the side dishes and your bowl of rice as usual. Try their Weizentee. I think it would be much better if they would talk to someone to have the garbage containers in front of the restaurant removed. This is not looking good and it’s not a welcoming feeling for the guests. Some walls also had food stains so a renovation in spring would help make this place much better. Their Kimchi Jjiggae is always delicious.

me and my girlfriend had sunday lunch here once. before i go on i want to be clear that this place clearly "specializes" in korean barbeque, which we did not have.

the first thing that strikes you when entering the restaurant is the absolutely eerie interior. it looks like the location is the remnant of some early 2000s american parody of a greek or perhaps italian restaurant. fake looking stone walls and and a very strange liminal atmosphere. the tables are either too far apart or too close. everything is either too large or too small. the fake stone walls. it really is like stepping into a weird fever dream.

the waitress did not seem to know any english or much german, but she tried to be nice and we managed to make the communication work.

anyway, we wanted to get some bibimbap, but this was unfortunately not available on the sunday lunch menu. as we are both vegetarian we did not want to get the barbeque, so we settled on dumplings, fried glass noodles with vegetables and rice.

starters they gave us free starters, which were ok. i think it was mostly pickled veggies. but um..

the rice... if there is 1 (one) single thing that you should at the very very least try to do decently at a korean restaurant it is the rice. the rice at arirang bulgogi tastes like the one you get in the middle school cafeteria. absolutely tasteless and no texture. unacceptable. the cheap generic asian place close to my house has 10x better rice.

fried glass noodles with vegetables looked and tasted like slime. disgusting. i dont remember the exact price but i think it was something like 7 euros. to be fair, there was A LOT of "noodles" (slime), but it doesnt really help when it is this bad.

fried dumplings actually pretty decent! nice crunchy texture and decent taste. also price was ok (i think something like 8 euros for a lot of dumplings)

if we had only ordered the dumplings and nothing else this place miiight have been a 3/5, but the rice and the noodles take away one point each. actually the rice thing still makes me angry when i think about it. imagine going to a middle price range pizza place and getting a margarita for 10 euros and they used the dough from call a pizza or something. only reason this works for arirang is because white people have no clue what the difference between terrible rice and even decent rice is.

if this place was mega cheap then maybe i could give it a pass. but for a middle price range restaurant the food is absolutely horrid. not recommended. but hey maybe their barbeque is great. actually no, because it would still come with that rice.

if youre a horror movie director you might want to visit to get endlessly inspired by the...
