Came here with my German friend who handled all the ordering. Service was efficient. They have multiple people helping to serve customers despite the tight space behind the counters, in order to keep the line moving quickly. We went during a weekday morning, so the line was not too bad. I could easily see this place having a line out the door. I enjoyed the SplitterBrötchen, chocolate croissant, pflaumen berliner, and a crueller type donut. My friend got a poppyseed cake. Everything seemed freshly made. The chocolate croissant dough is chewier than a typical french croissant, which might be an adaptation to the tastes and preferences of Germans (they certainly seem to love their bread and have preferred tastes and textures). It's asked as a Q&A but no reviews say anything, so I initially thought it was still cash only. There might be a minimum purchase order to use it, however. Our order was above the...
Read moreBäckerei Siebert is easily my favorite bakery in Berlin. The other bakeries were ok, but there was always a flaw - crust slightly too thick, a little too much caraway, or just dried out and lifeless. I was wondering if I just remembered German bread incorrectly, or whether there was a big difference between the bread in Berlin and Munich.
This bread was wonderful though, and is exactly how I wanted it to be. The one on the left was sweet and moist, and soft, while still feeling substantial. The one in the middle is just perfect. I've tried many that looked like the one on the right since I remembered it being good, but they kept being so thoroughly disappointing - not this one though. This one was perfect inside.
The service was also good. My German is awful, so I just smiled in apology and said "guten morgen, nur ein bisschen Deutsch, English?". She smiled at my awful pronunciation and was perfectly friendly about it, giving me a good recommendation when I asked what her...
