BRLO Chicken & Beer — Restaurant in Berlin

Love the BRLØ BRWHOUSE and have been going there for years, so often that friends call me up when they’re there to see if I am also around.

Tried the small place at KaDeWe for the first time now. Finally, before the food court will close for refurbishment... is what I wish I could say. BUT.

“Sorry, no more chicken, only the fried one.” At 6.00 pm on a weekday - when people would usually come for dinner.

“Sorry, two out of the core range beers are out, only available in bottles.” Beer from their own brewery, brewed by themselves.

“Sorry, I am the only one here, will clean your table in a minute.” In times of Corona cleanliness.

Service was impeccable. Friendly, forthcoming, open for a chat and quick with a joke. But the rest was kind of a disappointment.

Ah, yeah, before I forget: the fried chicken was good. But that’s not really what you would go...

Very bad service. My wife asked if she could order. Got then told that somebody will come to the table to take it. Waited then for over 20 minutes and nobody showed up. So went then back again when somebody will finally come. Got then told the exact opposite that she has to order there?!?!? Then asked if she could then finally order now but then got told that the kitchen is closed right now and she can not?!? Luckily another person came then and said that she obviously can order now and then simply get her food when the kitchen is open again in 5 minutes. Honestly also do not understand why the kitchen would close in the middle of the day in the first place. The chicken was then OK but for sure nothing to get...

Came at a rather busy period and it exposed a certain disarray in how the operation is structured.

Just getting an order in was quite the ordeal and required many iterations back and forth, but in the end the person serving us figured things out. Sadly the beer flight option was not available to us for some reason, while others had no problem getting it.

Anyway we settled for a pale, an ipa and a hazy and they were all quite ok. The half chicken with a large sallad was an absolute delight though. Moist, tender and packed with flavour. I’ve never managed to eat half a chicken in my life, but here it was too tasty to leave anything behind. Finger lickin’ good...
