ENGELBERG — Restaurant in Berlin

We went to this place last Sunday for breakfast. The place was a bit busy, there were no available tables inside so before we ordered we decided to sit outside since there is no empty tables inside. We were ordering in English which seemed annoyed for the cashier lady even though it's a touristic area and she speaks good English. However, she was treating us in an uncomfortable way but we thought this was because of the busy Sunday. Then I ordered and took a step back, there were some people leaving their table so I thought that’s good because it was cold outside. I went to the table but she sent a guy who told me “this table is reserved for another group”. I apologized and went back to the cashier area waiting for my food as it’s a self-service place. We told the lady if there are any possibilities for setting inside as many people started to leave it will be better. She said “NO, you asked to sit outside”. We didn't get her real point at this stage so we told her : “we know but it’s cold and the place now isn’t as crowded as when we ordered”. At this time a big table was available and there weren’t any other people waiting to set. We went to set and she said again NO you said outside, then she started to speak in German to her colleague nervously Untill she said to us: “ No, you can't sit inside because one of you is putting on much perfume and i can't deal with it! She is dealing with dozens of people everyday but not with the people who put perfumes and speaks English! So I wont say this was racism but I don't recommend this...

It was absolutely terrible. I don't have enough words to describe how bad this place is. The woman behind the counter took our order, was immediately grumpy when she found out that we were not German. I wanted to order yoghurt with fruit, this was gone. Fine, then I would like a croissant, but no, they were gone too. So we settled for an egg sandwich. This was served on the driest bread I have ever had. After having to wait 45 minutes for it!! While we were the only ones in this café, apart from about 4 other people! My friend wanted to buy a pretzel, which was of course also gone. After we got our food, the lady behind the counter very nicely put about 6 pretzels in the display case. Absolutely laughable. We wanted to pay by card, this was not answered with thanks! Grumpy she answered that she prefers cash. That is not our problem, is it? Terrible service, definitely not recommended. If I could give it 0...

Great location near probably the most lively park in Berlin. Self service ordering with waiter service and very busy, especially at the weekend. We ate outside as there was no room inside and it was less than 8⁰c. They do provide a few (not enough) blankets that made it bearable. Took about 20 minutes to order (big queue at counter) and another 15 minutes to get our food and drink, which wasn't too bad. We ordered 2 Weißwurst mit Brezel and hot chocolate and a croissant with ham and cheese. Additional warning is its CASH ONLY and it's not mentioned anywhere apart from the actual counter! Hopeless and so unnecessary as they have large and numerous signs outside, stating everything about the café APART from its cash only! Food was actually very nice and portions were large enough.
